A Pioneer SX 3900 I saved every penny I had to buy.

They were built like tanks and still highly prized

My dad gave me his old JBL L100s to pair with it. It was an amazing combo. Much like the 4311 studio monitor they were based on they were the perfect rock and roll speaker with a nice bass bump around 60hz and very forward midrange.

I really wish I had kept the setup. I sold them in college to buy Klipsch Forte IIs and Carver amp/preamp and frontend.

Rare store demo acrylic Pioneer HPM-100’s. Had them over 40 years and they’re still in pristine condition.

The very first iPod. I was blown away that I could have all of my music in my pocket.

Probably my backwards compatible PS3. The ability to play all of my PS1, PS2, and PS3 games with a wireless controller that's wasn't gimpy like the 3rd part solutions on the PS2 was amazing.

What ever happened to HTC phones?

They were everywhere for a while then suddenly vanished.

I'd like to give a shout-out to a very unglamorous piece of hardware that is nonetheless critical to the modern household.

In the late 90s Pac Bell made DSL available in my area. It was an amazing upgrade to dial-up. Then in December 1999 Linksys released the BEFSR41, a cable/DSL router with a four-port switch. I went to Fry's and picked one up I think for $199. Suddenly I was able to connect four computers to high-speed internet. I felt like a networking god! Pac Bell tried to threaten people that they were only allowed to connect one computer to the DSL line, but no one listened and eventually they gave in and said it was OK to use a router/switch.

Note that this was three years before Linksys released the WRT54G, the legendary wi-fi router that could be flashed with 3rd-party firmware (now known as the WRT54GL). I ran the WRT54G with Tomato for too many years. It was ancient by the time I replaced it with something more modern. I think I still have the BEFSR41 and WRT54G tucked away in storage.

I started out my ham career in 1955 building a Heathkit AT-1 which I had bought with money I earned from my paper route. I purchased an AT-1 on Ebay a few years ago intending to put it back on-air, but have never gotten around to doing so.
