Well I just ordered the equipment for Phase 1 - Network Upgrade and WiFi Coverage. Going Ubiquiti as expected:
- Dream Machine Pro
- 16 port switch
- ACPro (x2)
Going with 9u rack, UPS, and 24 port patch panel. Will colocate everything in one spot and place that’s hopefully easy to access from attic. Added some smart things: lights, ecobee thermostat, flume water meter, and garage door opener. Looking forward to getting this done and then hitting the next phase with extending to horse barn

So got all the stuff ordered quickly but dealt with delays on delivery of Dream Machine and Switch being stuck in Memphis for a week....wtf....couldn't enlist any help so spent 14hrs this past friday there and got most of it done. The hanging wires are temp for keyboard, power, monitor that's sitting on shelf on right.

- installed rack
- installed equipment
- relocated current 9 cameras and NVR from one spot to rack, to include the power box for cameras
- relocated WAN cable
- installed 2 APs

Stuff was working great that night then got an alert that the DM was offline, so went back up there yesterday for a few hours and was dealing with DSL modem/router combo config. Been forever and a day since dealing with DSL but got tech support to confirm steps. Tech was out there today cause there was continued connectivity issues and shitty signal per the ISP. Tech found the line that runs on outside of house had been spliced like twice and one of the splices caused the issue. So this afternoon or tomorrow will go back out there to try to make sure internet is all good. Buddy was super impressed with the coverage and work done.

Still to do:
- verify/update config so cameras are viewable remotely
- setup email alerts and motion-only recording for NVR
- reterminate 2 faulty BNC connectors for cameras
- troubleshoot connectivity to camera that is at gate of property
- relocate tv from other room to below rack as display for NVR and any future needs
- Install Smart devices (garage door opener, ecobee thermostat, flume water monitor, and light bulbs)
- adopt Smart devices on buddy's mobile phone
- install and config HiBoost cell booster

And this is all just he Phase 1 stuff....just sucks that it's an hour drive to get there to work on it along with juggling work and family.

Nice work so far! I hope you get more than a pat on the back from your buddy when it's all done.

Hahahahaha, this is using my geek interests/passion to help benefit him. He's been really good to my family and this is a small way to try and repay him.

Right now i'm fighting the IT gremlins of DSL modem config, shite i haven't done in forever. I called their tech support on sunday to ask for specifics of disabling the router/wifi functions and just having device used as modem. They said yeah just gotta bridge the connection (i didn't believe it was just that). So now the field tech has been communicating with me as well and says he sees device as not in bridge mode (after following steps from tech support). So now i'm reading through the device manual and getting my notes together so i can go back up there this afternoon with plan of attack.

Yeah, i crossed up my measurements and was stuck after drilling holes and putting toggle bolts in....this was later in the day after having been up and down at least a dozen times in the attic, sweating my balls off and being only one working on it....it pissed me off as well...lol

Small victories! Got the modem straight and data is flowing. Had been long last couple of days going back and forth to the farm, so after 30min messing with NVR i said screw it at end of the evening and went to see if i could kill a bobcat that’s been coming on the property. Got home and setup a vpn then was able to fix the nvr...thank god

Been having trouble with getting email alerts setup on the NVR. Have put the SMTP info in and can't get a successful test email sent. I've tried yahoo, outlook and gmail accounts and used the "less secure apps" password as well. It worked before the network upgrade so may have to investigate further when onsite for maybe some limited things that can be changed remotely.

Did order a UAP-AC-M-PRO to play with and will see how good the coverage is off back of house towards rest of property. Gonna plan to run cable to the barns/work sheds out back then extend a little bit out from there. The outdoor AP may not end up permanently on the back of the house but it will get used.

Added Outdoor Pro Mesh AP since we had ordered to test how far it could extend coverage. This thing impressed me very much. I was able to stream youporn with no issues from the "blue star" northwest of the house, and even able to send a text message from a hunting box in the "blue start" furthest north. We're going to grab another outdoor AP and test around the property for best coverage with the mesh and performance. Long-term still want to fun fiber from house to that "triangle" are (previously mentioned) to serve as central hub.

Lol. Wtf are you talking about. Fiber is cheap and is absolutely the way to get lan access to various parts of a large property complex.

It is the defacto standard in most new commercial buildings. Sfp switches are even cheap at the consumer grade level.

Gtfo with that cat6 direct burial bs.

Ill take your 100meters and raise you by 100 acres.

Don’t trench fiber

Trench direct burial cat6 cable, not difficult unless you want to get it super deep to avoid farm equipment
