Ecobee FAN ON behavior.

I recently purchased an Ecobee SmartThermostat and am having difficulty controlling the fan like I want to.
We had been turning the fan on at night with the old thermostat and I wanted to replicate this on the Ecobee. For the “sleep” comfort setting, I have the fan set from AUTO to ON. However, during the night the fan will still turn off. It seems to do this after the A/C has turned on and then back off. The fan will also turn back on sometime later (without the A/C turning on). Sometimes the fan runs all night without a problem. I first thought it was because somehow the comfort setting was being overridden, but I can’t find any evidence of this.
Anyone have experience with the FAN ON behavior of the Ecobee and how to make sure it stays on during a comfort setting?

my honeywell has 3 settings for fan:
- OFF
- ON
- CIRC
in circ mode my fan does what you're describing.

You can have the fan run a minimum number of minutes per hour. This under the "System" settings for the "Auto" setting on the fan.
It will run the fan for 10 minutes (or what ever it is set to) per hour even if the AC/Heat doesn't run. This is probably what it is doing now.
If you are overriding the temperature setting that may override the fan setting in that comfort mode.

Thanks for the replies. I’m strongly thinking about returning the Ecobee and getting a Honeywell.
I have the fan set to run 0/minutes an hour so I don’t think that’s what’s interfering. At any rate, why wouldn’t FAN ON take precedence?
I don’t think it’s an override issue because it supposedly tells you if it’s no longer on the schedule.
It’s just odd that something that should be so simple just doesn’t work as expected.

Is the system delay in the T-Stat or the AC system? There’s typically an interlock that prevents the system from immediately turning back on once it cuts off. I’d imagine this is built into the AC circuitry and not the thermostat, since older T-Stats didn’t really have much electronics.
Just wondering if maybe this is interfering with the setting. The T-Stat is calling for the system to cut off, then immediately requesting the Fan back on. But something is preventing the fan coming on.
Did this function like desired with your old thermostat?

It is rare for a system to have a lockout on the blower fan. Lockouts are for compressors and gas furnaces.

Call their tech support. They were easy to deal with when I had heat issues with one of mine. Sent me a free replacement. No problems going on 3.5 years with mine.

I sent them an email yesterday but no response yet (except a form email about how support might be delayed due to COVID). I’ll probably call this afternoon.
I noticed it do the same thing tonight. Basically what’s happening is that I the fan will be on by itself as expected, the AC will kick in, and when the AC turns off, the fan turns off. The fan then comes back on a few minutes later by itself.
It’s a new Ecobee gen 5 so I’m wondering if they don’t ha e all the bugs worked out.
I’m fairly certain it’s not my system locking out the fan for a period after the ac goes off because we’ve had this ac system for 10 years and I’ve never noticed that behavior.

Sorry I can’t help directly, but I found their tech support to be incredibly helpful. This was with a pretty weird wiring issue. They nailed it.
