Easiest or recommended VPN for iOS

I tried searching and couldn’t find a straightforward answer.
Basically I would like to have a VPN on my phone and iPad that can pull a US ip address so that I can watch sports on ESPN while abroad.
Any recommendations on an easy and relatively cheap service? I have very little experience so ease of use is a big plus.
Appreciate the help here

If viewing from abroad, just set up a service on your home router. It’s free. I like WireGuard because it’s easy and efficient. Super easy to set access rules too. In your case, allow 0.0.0.0/0 and block 192.168.0.0/16. Low powered appliances can routinely get 200-300 Mbps throughput on WG. OVPN is fine but don’t expect more than dozens of Mbps on appliance devices.

I'm pretty sure the TV providers these days have smart systems that can identify commercial VPN services almost immediately and block you. So good luck if you go that route.
The more reliable but difficult option would be to have a friend host a VPN server at their home located in the USA. Your connection would only show up as a basic residential connection in that scenario. There are plenty of pretty easy guides out there on how to setup a wiregard VPN server from your home.

It depends. Some services will detect if any VPN at all is running and refuse to load. Some track the shared "output" addresses (ie, the point in the US you hop "out" from) and block those. The latter can be circumvented by getting a "private server" so there aren't 1,000 VPN connections coming out of the same IP, which will look suspicious. It's easy to test during a free trial; simply turn the VPN, connect to say, a Toronto egress point, and try and use your apps.
That said, I fired up CBS for years, with no VPN, and watched LSU and the Saints all over the world. It's easy to download stuff that is going to be region blocked before you leave (usually current TV seasons) I had so much content on a 128GB iPad, I only streamed for ... uh sites not available in some puritanical countries, and LSU/Saints.

I used VPN Unlimited and was able to watch LSU games on ESPN app while in Spain last May. I authenticated w YTTV provider login. Good luck!

I have a lifetime sub to VPN Unlimited, but I have problems with it remembering to auto-connect, particularly on LTE (not on home Wifi.) I think I spent $170 for five device slots for life, and I've been using it for nearly a decade.

I use ExpressVPN for a few years mainly for abroad travel / TV box.
No issues. Easy to me to use as have it on desktop, phone, tv box.

I use ProtonVPN and paired it with a InvizBox 2. That way, I don't have to rely on VPN software. They have a list of providers from which to choose (which includes Surfshark that I saw mentioned).

I use Nord with no issues on iOS.
