Also the answer is you can go back to windows XP, but you can't downgrade to it.

You'd have to format and start over. That guy did him a huge favor by going to Windows 7. IF he's hellbent on XP you need to explain to him that it's a hackers playground now and tell him some shite like they can watch him or something to freak him out enough.

I've considered that, but the biggest hurdle right now is actually his email manager.

Install a copy of Windows XP on VMWAre, have him use it only when using email, and do everything else on Windows 7?

He really should be on Windows 10... but, baby steps.

I'm going to go against the the popular opinion and say let him have his XP. He's old as shite, and I'm sure he's had his share of life lessons. One more won't hurt.

Perhaps a set up like this would be best?

I recall loving xp and hesitently went to 7 and in short order, loved 7 as much if not better than xp

you can find custom xp's at rarbg.com
you'll also need the drivers to smoothly install and get going.

as far as I can tell, these so-called downgrade rights are just pure bull...if you find a way...best wishes on that

good luck

I definitely wouldn't go back to XP. It's no longer supported or secure for that matter. Your also going to start to run into compatibility issues with XP. Like certain websites might need a certain version of Java or IE thats not available on XP. I'm starting to see that a lot and people are being forced to upgrade. Can you just setup all the shortcuts to the things he uses on the desktop to make it easier on him. You can also set an option to make objects appear larger...

Just do XP mode on win7. Setup in an hour. Done. He can boot to 7, click the XP mode icon, then he is in the XP comfy world.

There are ways to skin everything to look like XP.

Make 7 look like XP

There are far too many security risks going forward for me to recommend a downgrade to below 7 at this point.

My bonafides? I have a triple boot XP/Ubuntu/7 Premium computer as my main PC at home and I set it up because I didn't drink the Windows 7 Kool Aid 5 years ago.

Make him comfortable and he'll fall in love with 7's stability.

This is the answer FTW!
