Does anyone have Starlink in the Baton Rouge area? I am considering moving my service from Cox to Starlink.

I don't have it, but I've only heard good things from the people I know that do have it.

Im in pensacola/ft walton area and just received the "mobile" (RV, travel) model a week ago. I wanted to do some test/eval for starlink and personal first hand experience. Gotta say, from ordering to receiving/setup, it's pretty damn impressive user experience.
On their website there is a sale for the standard home kit for $149 until the end of April. When poking around to make my order, I found i would also have to pay a one time $100 congestion fee. Which I assume is due to the popularity in our area as we are at mercy of the average ISPs available.
If i have any further service related issues with my ISP, I'm going to make the switch to Starlink for home use. The only thing i haven't tested yet is gaming scenrio due to the latency that's normal in satellite comms. So depending on your use case, standard internet needs seems like a no-brainer. Couple that with your own power backup and you'll have comms when others won't in storm/hurricane situations.

I have it and I love it, but there are some limitations. It never get slow, but it does get congested at time affecting your speed. Rain fade can also be an issue. Fiber/cable will almost always beat it. If you have DSL, SL beats it all day long. Unless your Cox service is like xfinity here and the internet drops out for a few minutes several times a day, I would probably stick with them. If you are looking to also use it at a camp or RV, yeah SL is awesome.

I have it and it’s been really great. They are running fiber for Spectrum this morning and will install tomorrow. Reasons for getting Spectrum: cheaper by a lot for much faster speeds and symmetrical download/upload. Starlink is asymmetrical. My downloads are around 140 Mbps and my uploads are about 15 Mbps.
I am not getting rid of Starlink though. They have a new plan for 10g monthly for $10. It’s advertised as a backup option. My gateway will accept 2 WANs. So, I’ll have Starlink as a Failover backup to Spectrum fiber.
Heavy stormy weather will interrupt service occasionally. Other than that, I have had wonderful service. It certainly was a huge improvement over ViaSat which was a huge improvement over HughesNet.
We have been able to have 2 gamers on Xbox consoles with 3 streamers watching their stuff at the same time with no lagging/drops.
Starlink customer since June 2022 (waited 14 months for service)

How do you know if Spectrum is old cable technology or fiber ?
I know based off upload speed but it was never here to begin with. Close but never on my street, at least not Spectrum.
Tried looking it up on site but never gives info.
Anyway to tell by the cables they install ? Had a lot of workers install new internet lines a few weeks or months ago. Though as far as I know whenever I look up the other houses 500 to 1000 feet away in our subdivision that always had Spectrum as a chose for ISP it always said old cable technology speeds. Even did it a second ago. Same.

Love the shite out of my Starlink at camp. Can stream YTTV all day long, with nary an issue. My boy even brought his XBox one weekend and played it and he stated it was fine. I think he said there was lag a few times, but nothing bad.

I’m in the edge of a parish that has a neighboring parish undergoing a massive internet build out under a rural initiative grant. I was told by a Spectrum rep I ran into in a local store that it was a complete fiber buildout. Also, one of my wife’s employees lives a mile away from us and told her about their ‘new fiber internet.’
Since I’m next door to this massive project, I’ve been able to get in on it. I started in September 2024 and had a technician out today to install but they had put the OTE on the wrong pole so I had to reschedule so they can bore under the highway and bury cable across the street to my house. Between starting in September and today, I had Spectrum installed at my mother’s house which is the only one between me and the parish line. On a wired line it’s uploading at 1040 Mbps and downloading a little over 1100. I had to do her house before they would come to mine.
I have no idea how you would be able to look up whether you were getting all fiber or a cable hybrid install. I did read somewhere that they tend to put hybrid systems in areas that previously had cable in order to take advantage of the existing infrastructure.
