re: Does anyone have Starlink?

Posted by Peter2 on 4/29/25 at 6:41 pm
Thank you.

Just got, 5 minutes ago, Starlink Roam unlimited and it fixed a lot now!
Already do. Not enough storage or space even with max out specs
Mostly when traveling in a car (not driver at the time) or a train. Sometimes just in the same spot/location too when not traveling speed can suck too. I tried all 3 main carriers. Not MVNOs.

Doubt starlink would help or anything else like it. Maybe I am wrong.

It mostly when traveling. Though like I said can happen either or.

Solution decided to make my own portable local wireless NAS for now. Should work as long as mode of transportation has a power source to plug into. I know train should sense they have actual outlets. Not sure about most cars :( Planes not sure either.

Anyway to make it battery powered too for emergencies ?

Yes I know I do not need to stream at 4k on mobile devices but want to. Even so 1080p or even below does not work that well either over cellular data speed at all times when traveling.

How do you know if Spectrum is old cable technology or fiber ?

I know based off upload speed but it was never here to begin with. Close but never on my street, at least not Spectrum.

Tried looking it up on site but never gives info.

Anyway to tell by the cables they install ? Had a lot of workers install new internet lines a few weeks or months ago. Though as far as I know whenever I look up the other houses 500 to 1000 feet away in our subdivision that always had Spectrum as a chose for ISP it always said old cable technology speeds. Even did it a second ago. Same.

Condos - AT&T Fiber

Posted by Peter2 on 3/29/25 at 8:21 pm
Does anyone know why some condos or a lot in Louisiana would not have AT&T Fiber availability ?

This is with AT&T and a iPhone 14 Pro Max

What could be causing this?

I thought AT&T suppose to be good even inside ?

Does not happen at home.

Is it just the nature of the beast, cellular data?

Best Cloud Storage?

Out there.

Does not have to be a ton or unlimited.

Samsung S24 Ultra vs iPhone 14 Pro Max

Posted by Peter2 on 3/8/24 at 4:29 pm
Did anyone switch to a Samsung S24 Ultra ?

Is it better per say ?

I know it is just iOS vs Android and both have advantages and disadvantages.

Do not think any condos in New Orleans or the general area have fiber sadly.

Mostly just homes and apartments oh well.
Can't seem to find any with it. :(

Unless I am looking at the wrong area or wrong Condos.
Talk about being behind times.

I left 1Password long ago.

Went to something much better.
There should be a video player on phones and tablets that compensate for buffering somehow. That way if your speed drops a lot or get no signal video/movie still plays without interruption. Talking about on 4g lte and 5g when out and about.

Never found a app video player like this yet but still looking!

Maybe it is not possible ? :(
This is weird why when I use a vpn on Unlimited Elite (grandfathered) when tethering to my Wifi only iPad Pro it streams 60 to 70 GB 4k movies without buffering? Though when I do not use the vpn it buffers ?

My steam saver is off on my account.

I get 100 to 250 Mbps on fast.com with both vpn not on and vpn on.

That is my current video card what should I upgrade to that is worth the money? Best bang for the buck if possible.

If not then it is ok.

Thought maybe now is the right time to get a new graphics card. Maybe I am wrong.

Mainly doing it for Cities Skylines 2.

Current pc specs is i7 12700k, 32 GB of ddr4 ram, 2 TB SSD NVMe

My resolution 2560x1440 right now

Anyone ever used one?

Is it possible to create a Wifi (wireless) portable SSD or Hard Drive with it that is battery powered lasting at least 10 hours or so ?

I upload all my backups to usenet.

Hope I get downvoted a lot for this :)

I do not want my groceries delivered inside my house only to my front door. I can handle the rest. Good thing that is a option.

I like being downvoted btw :)
