If this pans out for DISH it will set up the other add-ons for lawsuits and shutdowns I think.

American satellite and broadcast provider Dish Network is requesting a default judgment of nearly $2 million against the man behind the defunct Kodi-addon ZemTV. UK-based developer "Shani" willingly offered access to hundreds if not thousands of infringing works which hurt Dish's revenues, the company argues
quote:
If copyright infringement is ‘willful’ the rightsholder can request the maximum amount of statutory damages, which is $150,000 per work.

As ZemTV’s developer has chosen not to defend himself, there’s a high chance that Dish’s request will be granted. If that’s the case, the question remains whether Dish will ever see the full amount paid.

He won’t pay it.
Developers will get smarter and better in the future.
Cable will always lag behind trying to sue instead of making their own product better
ETA: this will hurt in the short term though. streaming will go back to being more underground and need to be more tech savvy to set up, the issue with Kodi and Terrarium TV etc is it became way too popular and too easy for the gen public to install and use...then people got greedy

By making the money spent worth the investment over the free option.

Ever since content could be had across the internet people feel like it should be free.
Its not.
You view something that is copyrighted digital content and you view it without OTA or a paid legitimate company it's not legal.
That said, people don't think they will get caught.
No idea
But I don't do this and pay for Directv now, netflix etc and it's not that much and gives me 100 channels and all the content you could ever watch.
If you don't, more power to you. I don't judge.

To be fair, I was well versed in torrents. IPTV though, you get the credit. And I now use the same service you do.

I can rent a physical bluray disc for $2 but most HD streaming rentals are $5-$7? WTF is that shite? If the movie industry wants to send piracy back to the fringes then streaming rental pricing needs to be comparable to physical rental pricing.
