Just signed up for the free trial using my 2nd Gen Apple TV. I've previously tried Sling and my biggest complaint was having to get an antenna for local networks.

This has solved that as it comes with the local streams for NBC, CBS, and Fox. I like what comes with the $50/month package. The interface is pretty well laid out.

My biggest complaint is the sluggishness of the UI though. It lags pretty bad when trying to flip through the guide. Which is strange to me because when I pick a channel it doesn't take but a second to load the channel.

Is there any DVR function? They have Watch list but that looks like you just pick shows to save there as a shortcut to get those On Demand, which all look a week behind. What's the option for watching something that aired within the last few days but not having to wait for On Demand?

I'm also peeved that the Fox Sports is like Oklahoma or something and not New Orleans. I won't be able to watch Pelicans game which is gonna be a pain.

PSVue has most of the features you are looking for, locals, guide, and dvr (I think) at a similar price point. However I don't know which is better as I'm actually looking at getting both now. I say all that to possibly get some responses on the differences in them and which is better if it's pretty clear.

PSVue has DVR. In fact, my wife almost started a riot with DirecTV pissing her off not having it back in Spring 2017.

DirecTV did run very well though, but then again I've never really had any lag issues overall at my house.

Is DirecTV not giving out free Apple TVs right now? That's how I got mine.

I've done the free trial with Direct, Hulu, and YouTubeTV. Direct was my favorite of the 3 so far, with Hulu a close second. Hulu would be my favorite but it only had NBC in my market(Birmingham) for the locals. YouTubeTv is terrible.

They are. Another reason I'm considering it because I need a new one anyway.

...Wanna expand on that?
I'm really liking it so far. I figured out I could use my login to the Fox Sports Go app and still watch Pelicans so the $50 package pretty much catches everything.

Again, the only complaint I have is the laggy UI, but I'm wondering if that would get better on the newer Apple TV.

I've had it since almost day 1 and really have no complaints other than the crappiness of the On Demand section. There is no DVR at the moment (although I've been part of the Beta testing for the new app with DVR functionality for several months now). I do want to point out that SOME shows have a 72 hour rewatch window - meaning that you can replay the show at any time within 72 hours of it first airing. Shows that have a little curved arrow in the guide are part of that program. LINK

True, for me in NOLA it's Fox Sports Southwest and Fox Sports Oklahoma....BUT, fear not. You can still watch all the Pels game broadcast by Fox Sports New Orleans through the Fox Sports Go app using your DIRECTV Now login credentials.

I've had DTN for a few months now and have generally been pleased with it. The only problem I've encountered is occasionally buffering, which was addressed in another thread here. The main culprit was ESPN and its affiliates. The buffering was worse at night during peak watch times which was 6-10pm. I downloaded the ESPN app and have much better luck with that although the picture quality fades in and out at times. I did a little more research and found that this is an ESPN problem and not a DTN problem. I'll occasionally have another channel briefly buffer but it's not for long. I never have any buffering issues on any of the apps I have. I am currently connected to AT&T broadband and have the Internet50 plan. My video connection is via built in Roku on a TCL television which shows I have "excellent" wifi reception. This past Tuesday I learned that AT&T is installing fiber in my subdivision in March and I can't wait to get on board! A friend of mine has had DTN for about a year now and he has never had an issue with buffering on any channel. He has Cox internet. He is also participating in the DTN DVR beta program and likes it a lot. I believe that it will come on line later this year.

I've done all of them and it's all personal preference. I read someone's reply that said YouTube TV was awful. I actually prefer it the most from the UI design but it doesn't offer commercial free service, it doesn't have History Channel, or Food network, etc.

For those reasons alone, Hulu with Live TV is the clear winner, especially if you already were paying for Hulu.

Hulu with Live TV also is the only on that I've found that's on ALL my devices:
-Xbox One S
-Samsung TVos
-Apple TV
-Roku TV outside
-Amazon Fire TV

They have their shite together whereas the others fall flat in the most critical areas - in my opinion.

I have COX Gigablast internet and consistently have buffering issues with Directv Now. I am about to cancel it and go with Hulu Live tv because I get local channels with it but do not with the Directv Now. If Directv Now fixes the buffering issue I might go back, but it becomes almost unwatchable during peak times and Hulu has not had the same buffering issues during the 7 day trial I have been using this week.

I switched to a Rocky premium and the GUI is much faster. I am beta testing the DVR and it’s available on the ATV. Seems like it’s stabilized quite a bit. I think they are close. Reddit baws talk about it quite a bit too.

The problem I had with YouTubeTV may just be my setup. I was using a Chromecast and casting it from my Android phone. For some reason it was real wonky trying to switch channels. I could see the other channel on my phone screen, but when I hit the screen to change to that channel, it wouldn't switch. It did the same thing with my iPad.

I never tried it on my AppleTV.

If/when they add the locals in my market, I will be going back to them.

I have tried casting from my iPhone 8 plus to the AppleTV 4th gen (non 4k) and it was good.

I'd actually say that YouTube TV's lack of a dedicated app on devices is what's holding it back. The irony is YouTube TV has an app on my 2017 Samsung Q7 but not for AppleTV. That's weird to me. They went with a smaller market than AppleTV. I guess Google doesn't like money?!
