I'm looking for a device that can recreate the sound of a firearm being shot. I mean, sonically, it would recreate the intensity and crack of a bullet being fired.

Why not just use a real firearm? It is unlawful to discharge a firearm in public in most cities, so I want to use something that sounds like one but isn't. Is this even possible to recreate?

Funny, but sonically accurate.

A 4x4x8 falling over and slapping a concrete floor might work.

What kind of gun? Pistol? Shotgun?

i had this miniature cannon as a kid that you will fill the chamber with water and there was a button you would press that would dispense this stuff into the water, it would vaporize then there was a flint button that you would slam down and it would go boom..... like really loud. you could feel the concussion.

My dad got it to scare the birds away from his garden. and i would play with it. but i cant find something like it on the internet.

ETA: here it is , WOW i cant believe how expensive these are.

You could do a dry ice bomb.

Water and dry ice in a 20oz bottle and crank the lid down tight. It's actually probably louder than a gunshot.

A friend of my wife's was in a situation where she felt unsafe and she told my wife that she is too afraid of guns to purchase and use one but felt that if she had a device similar in size that would "sound" like a gun (handgun) that she would buy it and keep it in her purse to "fire it" to scatter any person or group of people that she felt threatened by. I thought if there was something like that on the market, then I could send a link to my wife to share with her friend.

just have her get some grizzly spray

FWIW, I think imitating a gun like that out in public might not be kosher

Well, it wouldn't be discharging a firearm, so what law might it break? Disturbing the peace?

Bird Bombs

Dad uses these to scare cormorants off his lake.

If I sell a bag of flour and call it cocaine, I still get in trouble. I am just saying imitating a firearm in a public place to cause panic so everyone runs, might not be a good idea...

You know how they say don’t bring a knife to a gunfight? More so, don’t bring a fake gun to a gunfight.

What you just described sounds like a great way to get shot.

Tell her to buy mace and a taser. They'll work better than a fake gun sound

It's really not a good idea. It wouldn't take any effort at all for a criminal to realize it's not real, then what? She's defenseless.

Is she against taking the time to go to the shooting range and get familiar with operating a gun?

All of this is my $.02. Not passing judgement. It takes all types.

Your friend's wife will end up dead is she goes through with this stupidity. The first rule of conceal carry is if you're going to pull your weapon for defense you have to be prepared to use it. It's not a game. If she is in a situation where she feels the need to pull a gun she needs a gun. Pulling a fake gun in a sketchy situation will put you in the ground. This is the dumbest idea I think I've ever heard of. She'd be better off making a gun with her thumb and pointer and just yelling "POW, POW, POW." At least then the sketchy people will scatter away from the crazy lady.
