I had Cox 150. Routinely got 130-160Mb/s

I upgraded to 300. Routinely got 130-160Mb/s

Just got a new Netgear Docsis 3.1 modem and Nighthawk router and upgraded to gigablast. Routinely get 160-200Mb/s.
Only thing that is really different is i'm getting 35 upload instead of what i was getting before with 9.

I got this email. I already have a 3.0 modem pretty sure. I tried to get the higher download speed plan before and they said the modem won't do it. So, what's the better deal, upgrade modem, change to att, or do nothing.

If you have att fiber in the area , do that. Otherwise just stay with what you have. Upgrading speeds with Cox , prepare for nothing to change and for them to blame it on people working from home.

I'm betting they want you to switch to a 3.1 modern because they're trying to phase out 3.0 where they can.

I told Cox to keep me on my plan (300/30) the other day because I had the equipment and needed the upload speed. Despite me explicitly telling them to leave my plan alone, they changed it anyway to the shite 500/10 and simply said “oh well, can’t change it back now”. Numerous escalations got nowhere. Looking into filing a Louisiana Public Service Commission complaint as well as FTC.

That’s your prerogative as an internet stranger, I guess.

I believe it completely. Cox does what they want, when they want, charge you however much they want, and they dare you to do something about it.

This is an outright lie. You should be ashamed.

You must work for Cox.

You've already dismissed whodatdude's story as a lie, but I'll go ahead and share my experience too. I had Cox for many years for TV, internet, and phone (only had phone because they swore it would be cheaper somehow). A few years back I wanted to drop to internet-only. Again they swore it would be somehow cheaper if I added basic cable TV, so whatever sure. I know they're fricking liars and your actual bill is nowhere near the advertised price, so I had the rep repeat for me 3 times what my actual monthly payment will be inclusive of all taxes and fees. I was given a price, to the penny, and it was an oddball figure higher than the advertised price, as expected given the taxes/fees. It was $61 and some change (it was either $49 or $55 without the fees). That didn't sound bad, and it was cheaper than the local competition's price of $65.99 (all fees included). Well I start getting Cox bills and all their bullshite added up to more than $79. So I canceled and switched to the competition (Eatel), and they didn't outright lie to me. They advertised $65.99, and wouldn't you know that's exactly how much I had to pay each month.

So frick Cox. THEY should be ashamed.

Cox is a straight up criminal enterprise. They have been very shady in my dealings with them. Waiting for the day I have another option.

Imagine being so incredibly butthurt over this. Wow your life must be miserable.

Your novel of a story does not equal:

quote:

Cox does what they want, when they want, charge you however much they want, and they dare you to do something about it

So...yeah by definition its a lie

Imagine being such a passive bitch that you let some company bend you over for an extra $200/year just for the frick of it.

Quite better since leaving Cox, thanks.

They kept bumping my rates like clockwork, they lied to me on several occasions, they definitely charge whatever they want regardless of what they tell you, and in my view if they tell me I'll be paying X and they send me a bill for X + $20, damn right they're daring me to do something about it.

And if you're arguing semantics over that, then it looks to me like you're the one who's butthurt over me talking shite about your employer.

Wow. It must be terrible to be such a dramatic little cuck.

What if I told you I know for a fact you're exaggerating and lying? Can you show us on the doll where the bad Cox man touched you?

Whatever you want to call it. If exposing a company as shady liars so others don't have to deal with their bullshite is me being "butthurt" and it makes you feel good to say it, go for it.

You call me a liar, and now I'm a dramatic cuck after explaining why I'm not lying? Your schoolyard debate tactics are exceptional.

Yeah me and all the others in this thread detailing all of their shadiness?

Enjoy that Cox paycheck.

The e-mail I received made it clear that the DOCSIS 3.0 would not be sufficient, which is odd because it's what I have and my upload speeds are never below 35 mbps. They said in order to stay with the current plan, I will need a DOCSIS 3.1, which will be arriving Saturday.

As annoyed as I am about this, I am not overly upset because I have been wanting to upgrade to a separate router/modem set-up for awhile. Just pisses me off that I am now forced to do it; yet, makes me happy I get to play with tech shite

I had a very similar experience with AT&T, but the price difference was $50+. Only difference is, I would only talk to them through chat so I had "a transcript" of the conversation and kept accusing them of bait & switch.

Basically found out the person that quoted me the original amount overlooked a discount I had that was expiring. I wasn't trying to keep the new package at the price, I was just trying to us the bait & switch as leverage to get out of the contract for free. Ended up getting the deal (their top speed before fiber, and full uverse with all channels) for a ridiculous price for 12 months. On the down side, when the 12 months were up, they would not work with me to get me a deal to stay. I told them I was leaving, and they basically said "ok"

Just saw in BR Business Report that Eatel will be in BR by the end of 2021. Full fiber 1 gig for $99, no contracts. Would much rather deal with Eatel if I had the choice.

I have been running Cox's 300 down/ 30 up plan for years. Now, all of a sudden, my modem isn't good enough for the current plan and they want to upgrade me to 500/10. The issue really is they are retiring the 300/30 plan and trying to force people off of these plans. But, if I buy a new modem that supports D3.1, I can keep my current plan.

Same here.

It's all about upload speed. I am buying the new modem. I found a refurb Arris on Amazon for $126. Also, the new modems are capable of giga-blast.

Do not let them take the 300/30 from you.
