I went to cox last week to pick up a second DVR box for 2nd TV and the sales rep tried selling me on the contour - would include a second DVR and between the 2 contour boxes, you can record up to 6 shows. Sounded like a pretty good deal, but then I read a few reviews online which weren't very good. Anyone have the contour? Is it worth the switch/upgrade?

I'm glad you started this thread. What is Contour?

Interested in the responses.

Do you mind if I tag on a Cox v DirecTV poll as well. Need to decide this week on who to go with.

I had 3 DVRs and switched to contour. The main box can record 6HD shows at once. The other boxes just talk to the main box. It is a tad slower response when fast forwarding and such on the remote boxes, but I am very happy with it. I used to record some things on one and some on the other, but now I can see them all on any tv. Plus the new interface is way better.

Only con, no clocks on the remote boxes and the clock on the main box is behind a beveled piece of plastic making it blurry.

A poll would be fine.

As far as what it is,here is the cox website:

LINK

Looks like it's 2 or more DVR boxes that allows you to record more shows and save more shows plus it allows you to connect your cox cable to your tablets/phones so you can watch your coz cable on other devices in the house.

Again, I really didn't go to cox to get the service, it's just its cheaper than what I was looking to get and appears to give more. Plus, if I do a bundle with my phone, it would be a good savings at least for the first 12 months. My only concern is some of the negative reviews online regarding connectivity issues. I habent had any issues with my DVR boxes ever and really do t want to have to deal with having to meet cable techs at my house because I switched over to a new product that doesn't have all the bugs worked out.

That's weird, I have clocks on all of my remote boxes. It's great, and three boxes are cheaper than my prior two DVR boxes.

Not sure the contour would be my thing. We only have one TV. Talking about upgrading to a second, big life decisions.

My big question - how do I get the hours currently on my two DVRs onto the Contour? Or do I have to keep both for a month and watch everything on my DVR?

No Live sports on Contour.

Waste of money IMO. Get a sling box instead.

The interface looks great but it is slow and sometimes unreliable. Mine had to be rebooted a lot and it takes forever to reboot. UVerse on the other hand is fast and never goes down. Cox TV is shite. IMO.

This thread confuses me a little. I'm not sure if I have "contour" or not, because I already have some of these services.

I currently have 2 DVRs in my house. They can each record/view 2 channels at once (you can't view a 3rd channel if recording 2 on that box). They also are linked to each other so I can view anything recorded on either of the boxes in either room. I also have the ability to watch TV on my iDevices in my home, but not my recordings.

I called about "upgrading" to the Contour6 receiver and a client box. The rep ran through the numbers and said I'd actually be paying more for the C6DVR and a non-DVR client than I pay for my 2 DVRs. So I didn't upgrade.

When I press Menu on my DVR, it says Contour. When I upgraded to the two DVRs, I paid $5 more per month for the "Advanced" DVR service or some shite. I know my interface is different than my parents older DVR interface.

I'm liking Cox so far. I have the new Contour boxes, and it's faster than my U-Verse was.

it's easier to move around, and everything is laid out in a way that makes a lot of sense. I haven't really done much with the contour part other than setting up a profile for my favorite shows and whatnot.
