the next step is going to be coming down HARD on people sharing passwords for ESPN, HBO, etc as well as completely illegal things like Kodi (they are in that process right now)
Some services only let you register a certain amount of devices, as for Kodi. Kodi isn't illegal bc its a media hub.

I used to work for Comcast... I don't defend them at all, and support cord cutting. However it's stupid that everyone's cord cutting plan involves using the login of someone still paying for cable or satellite.
I use DirecTv Now and am happy with that service. $35 a month for 70+ channels and HBO

That's why you get a VPN Lol at anyone who thinks they can stop the cord cutting train
You still use data while masking your IP through various servers.

My other point here on internet usage is I don't stream a bunch of content. Why should I be charged the same as five people at CAD's house streaming content 24/7? Put us on different rates.
i think they lose sight of this
It doesn't cost them anymore to allow one person to use 1 gig versus, while another person only uses 250 mgb

i pay $78 for 50mpbs with cox. that's the full price, non-promotional offer. i've been with them for so long, i've exhausted my "i swear i'll cancel if you don't lower my bill" cards.
i think 25mbps is the sweet spot for a lot of folks (i.e. don't have a gaggle of kids), but apparently cox realized this too and found a way to frick people. they used to offer 25mb for around $40, but they started this "we're doubling your speed for free!!1!" scam 4 or 5 years ago. yes, they did double it, but they slowly doubled my cost too. so now i'm at $80 for 50mb with no 25 option anymore. like the other guy said, their 15mb package is now over $60, so you might as well pay 1.3x the cost for 3.33 times the speed.
nowadays when you call to cancel cable but keep internet, they won't even bother sending you to a retention department. it's just "ok, turn in your cable box", and they're more than happy to keep raping you with their overpriced internet.

Cord cutters are trashy.
People who pay for 300+ channels they don't need are idiots that like giving away money for free.
On top of over priced sub standard internet.

Just in case anyone is curious -
If you've browsed through this thread, and just this thread, not including the main OT page that took you to this thread, and didn't refresh, didn't reply, only read page by page once; you would've used about 18 MB of data.
That may not sound like much, but this thread is only 10 pages and there aren't too many pics/gifs. Think about following a game thread at a few hundred pages with multiple gifs/pics, multiple refreshes, multiple replies, and so on. Add to that the fact that you're probably tabbing out to google/view other stuff (and possibly streaming the game on your TV.) These things add up fast.
I could see half a gig being used during a game just on the game thread and related activities. Streaming the game on ESPN will used about 18-20 GB. Streaming the alternative camera view game will add another 18-20 GB. So, one LSU baseball game at my house could burn through 40 GB; this CWS could use about 40-50% of my data cap just on the games alone. That's why some of us are pissed about the caps.

TD is always interesting on this because people get pounded all the time on here for being cheap. But, when it comes to the thing they are basically on here for...sports...they would rather jump through hoops to get some shitty stream or use cuz's password than just plunk down a few bucks to get an awesome picture and access to so many great channels. I know everyone rips comcast, but the sports tier is like $10, I think. That's incredible (yeah, I understand I am paying for hundreds of other channels I don't need). My other point here on internet usage is I don't stream a bunch of content. Why should I be charged the same as five people at CAD's house streaming content 24/7? Put us on different rates.
People like you who are low data users balance out high end users. No one should have a cap bc of this. Low end users need to get speeds in the $20 to $30 a month range while people who want more pay around $80. No caps for anyone.

frick. This new ISP (EarthLink) uses DSL, not cable. Had horribly inconsistent service with ATT DSL.
At least you don't have Cable One
my data limit is 700 fricking GB, on a plan I pay $100 a month for.

yes plenty but we don't pay for tv we don't want
so we stream it over the internet, Netflix, amazon,Vue, Kodi etc. Normal tv usage for a family or a sports lover.
With better quality streaming it uses more data. American ISPs are trying to frick people over.
Other countries, have cheaper internet, faster internet and internet with no data cap.

I was not happy receiving that email today. I haven't exceeded 450 GB a month so far, but that's just 2 maybe 3 streaming devices on 720/1080 2 hours a day. When 4k becomesthe standard its going to be close.
I'd suggest everyone give customer support a little hell, but do it politely. Voice your displeasure, compliment the agent, and say if you had another option you would switch.

Well my new favorite poster on this site is now CAD703X.
I agree with everything he says. For the single guys on here and the husband/wife duo then 1 tb will probably never be reached. For people with families especially with multiple kids this data cap will make entertainment a little more difficult.
I agree that Allowing ISP's to be able to offer tv service has given them free rein to do as they please.
First it started with look the internet bill is going up again. then it was look the tv service is going up again. I mean i was paying dish after taxes for the crappy programming 80.00 a month on top of comcast almost 75 for less than 100mbps internet.
Thats over a 150 a month just for some crappy channels and close to standard cable these days.
I didnt even know comcast had implemented the 1tb data cap till i got the data usage after i cancelled dish and went with Vue as our tv entertainment choice because it allowed multiple streaming for the kids.
When i called comcast they wanted to me to add 30.00 a month more for unlimited data. My saving grace was AT&T ran fiber through our neighborhood like 8 months earlier and was offering 1gb UNLIMITED data internet for 80@ month. So currently im in a good spot because of the unlimited data but as we know that will probably change as these big companies have all the power to do what they want. Good luck CAD703X hopefully you'll get a lifeboat thrown your way like i did with AT&T. Never thought id live to see the day AT&T offered me a lifeboat on service

FAWK. Finally had good tv (PS Vue) no stupid damned boxes at every tv (frick your shitty boxes Cox - Fire TV and Sticks for the WIN) and a bill that I didn't feel like was an anal rape each month. 74 for internet/ 50 for TV. Everyone in my house was happy.
1384
1224
1389
over the last 3 months.
3 kids, 6 TVs, PS4, PS3, phones and ipads and friends over. What a pain in the arse. And their Cable makes my OCD go apeshit with their stupid box rentals.
I have never seen a company work so hard to lose customers as COX.

Do you have a router that has a companion app that lets you see how much data each device is using? If so I would check that out and see where you can cut some usage. I have a Google OnHub router and the app is great for monitoring what devices have connected to my network.

Comcast did the same thing to me as well. Finally had everything good. had Vue all 5 of us were happy then a month later i get a warning that im near the cap. I was like WTF? didnt know they had started a cap few months earlier. So i dropped comcast for AT&T fiber for 10 bucks more but unlimited data because i knew the summer was coming and 1 tb would not be enough. It has been a great move so far. I added netflix and still 30 bucks cheaper than what i was paying before. Good luck
