I don't know why Texans still think this, but you are actually quite average in the States and higher than some of your neighbors.

I'm talking about the price of kWh. You are very average there. Deregulation doesn't really buy you anything as far as price. $35 is more a product of a good weather month where you can pretty much shut down climate control and open the windows. Especially if you upgrade to LEDs and other energy saving devices.

It's crazy how much LED lighting has effected the power industry.

No, each zone will need it's own Nest.

Buy it. My power bill has been $200 lower every single month since I put it in this past summer. Use EcoMode like crazy.

my electric bill was $399 last month.

sucked.

i have 2 units; one is propane gas heat and the other is a shitty heat pump that runs all night long when its cool outside. i've been weighing the pros and cons of replacement cost vs the ridiculous electrical bills in the winter.

unfortunately the heat pump POS is the unit that covers our bedrooms so it has to run at night. our house is 4200sf and was built 40+ years ago so i'm sure its not a model of insulated efficiency as it is.

eta i meant to point out we have a 500 gallon propane tank and i fill it to 75% about once every 1 1/2 years. you do the math. the propane is practically free and much warmer heat by comparison and we also use it for our gas range and stove.

buying and managing my own energy myself (propane) that averages out to like $15/mo shows me there is some serious ripping-off in the energy i'm paying for.

Just wanted to add that with Google Assistant rolling out to non-Nexus phones, you will be able to use your voice to control more than just Nest Thermostats from your phone. I am now able to control my Honeywell Thermostat from my phone just by saying, "okay Google, raise the temperature 2 degrees", or "okay google, i'm a little hot", etc. It is pretty awesome.

Tennessee is very average on pricing. Maybe you should get a smart meter for your panel box and figure out where you can try to save some energy.

Who are you actually trying to blame for this serious ripping off?

hold down the home button. i don't have it yet but it seems like people are getting it in droves now. So if you don't have it I would expect you will within a week.

With my phone finally getting Google Assistant i have scrapped the idea of purchasing a 2nd or 3rd Google Home.

what is the difference between that and just telling your phone "ok google"?

Google Assistant is just an upgrade on Ok google. Most of the functionality is the same but just think of it as Ok Google 2.0. One major distinction is the ability to control your smart home devices. Ok Google 1.0 could not do that.

No. Once google sends it to you phone the next time you hold down the home button the little google assistant will pop up telling you that you have it and want to walk you through a quick tutorial.

What you are seeing is Now on Tap.

It's not really that groundbreaking to be honest. Just a little different way of displaying OK google results. I'm just anxious to get it so i can have another device that controls my smart products.

believe me i've extensively researched smart devices for your house. you think i left that out when i automated the shite out of my house? i don't like any of them yet and MTEC replaced my meter with a fancy WIFI meter last year and my bill WENT UP.

i'm saying i have smart thermostats and every possible fixture is LED and i still have ungodly bills.

clearly i can run the one HVAC for $15/mo its insane the shitty old heat pump is so expensive. i'm sure its old and needs to be replaced.

i'm talking about 'minimum service fees', tax and all that shite i don't have to deal with when i'm managing my own propane gas.

this topic again......... frick i wish this tech would get reliable.

People dont realize that once you instill these things it take months for them to figure out thing in your house and half the time they are wrong.

i would you soulc go to a switch and flip it on and off a few times and the device can figure out what it is.

my outlink smart plugs do this (when they work) and i have the little $25 doodad from home depot that you plug appliances into before plugging them into your wall.

problem is neither are worth a damn with the REAL culprits like your dryer, pool pump or HVAC systems because those dont plug into your wall
