Can't think of a reason not to. I just switched to an Ecobee and installed LED lights in my house. This months power bill is down $40 from last year. I'm looking forward to seeing how my savings continue.
Get whatever smart thermostat works for you bro.

Ecobee is better.
Don't buy a Nest a Thermostat

some people really hate on Nest. I like mine and don't ever adjust mine unless it's something random like a party on Mardi Gras day when I would normally be at work on a Tuesday.
People like the ecobee but I am more than happy with my Nest.

I have a nest, my research yielded that they are both great products. Most people prefer the ecobee, provided you make use of the remote sensors. If not, the nest is fine.

Did what's the deal with the ecobee sensors?
Do you need one for all the rooms?

I think it comes with 2, but u can purchase more for extra rooms. If you use only 1, it heats/cools your home based on the desired temperature of the room where the sensor is located.
If you use multiple sensors, it just comes up with an average temperature.

You can get the ecobee without the sensors for cheaper as well (lite version.) You can't buy sensors for this version (they do not work with it) and you can't use geofencing with it either. That's about all it's missing.

So ecobee lite offers the same functionality as the nest?

I have a nest and its been great. I have not touched the thermostat in over a year outside the rare day Im home or a cold front comes unexpected and I switch on the heater from my bed.
I think the others basically caught up to the Nest from a technology standpoint. So Id get whatever one suits you best.

Not to Hijack here but school me on the sensors that comes with this product. I understand the concept of placing them in room you want cooler or you spend more time in. But why wouldn't you just direct more air flow in these areas by adjusting the dampeners in your AC duct lines? To me this would be more cost effective than cooling a larger square footage just to get your bedroom cooler.

Building a house now, and planning on using a Nest thermostat, smoke detectors, and cameras. Reviews seem to be pretty good for all three.

If you have dampeners then they are no doubt more efficient than the remote sensors. The Ecobee is still a really nice product even if it didn't come with remote sensors though.

Does the Nest know you're home by physical movement or does it know your phone is home so you should be home too?

If you have multiple units in your house, I don't think Nest will pair the units like the ecobee. At least it wouldn't back when I was looking at it.

Based on my understanding, the Nest has a larger margin of error for the desired temperature you select than any other thermostat. I think it is like +-3 or 4 degrees when most of the others are closer to 1 degree.
I have a Honeywell touchscreen wifi thermostat that works great. I do think the greater differential for Nest probably accounts for the $$ savings on electrical bill.
But, I couldn't justify the cost of a Nest when I get the Honeywell for less than $80.

I have never heard of Ecobee, it will work with my multizone system? I have a separate zone for the master bedroom bc I like it cold AF. I have shied away from the Nest because I didn't want to buy two.
Anyone have experience with multizone and one controller?
