Is there any good uses for these, they have them in every room. Converting to hdmi thread got me wondering.

depends on how you watch tv and what you use to get your cable/stream

I've found that their best use is as pull cords for replacing them with ethernet cable.

You might be on to something here. I have one perfectly in line with upstairs and it could attach my google mesh system upstairs to downstairs modem

Great idea. Unfortunately for me the guy that installed them really liked his stapler.

Unless they are tacked inside the wall. My brand new house had them all over and nicely run to a wiring closet. I yanked them all back into the attic to open up space in my conduit. They are useless to me. But the contractor also ran cat6 so I can’t complain.

Yeah I believe it's code for new construction in a lot of places.

It's code in every municipality I've done work in. It's part of the NEC.

How much of it applies when running cable in existing structures? Obviously you can't staple down the stud but are you supposed to secure to the joists/rafters?

You can also network over coax with MoCA adapters.

I wish you lived closer to me - I have enough work in this house to keep you busy for a year.

Yeah, retro work means no staples but I'd use them in the attic if cables were run through there.

Anyway I have a few years left of shite to do on my own house first.

This.
The Motorola MoCA adapters (model MM1000) work great.

There is no way any of this stuff is code. I have literally hundreds of yards of low voltage cable everywhere. Coax, AV, speaker wire, cat 5, the whole megillah. And none of it works/is connected correctly.

This is where I miss Radio Shack. Even if the employee was fairly clueless you could still find what you need or what works.
There is a coil-like plastic bundler that you can use to hold all the cords together as they snake through the attic, or wherever. Don’t know the name.

quote:Spiral wrap? I'm talking about securing the cables to the structure, not necessarily keeping them bundled together for the whole run.
