Cellular Data Throttling and VPNs

I got a new iPhone 13 a couple of weeks ago and was pleasantly surprised that my carrier (Verizon) had 5G. Love it. I also have a built-in hotspot on my phone that shares the 5G speed (354 Mbps) with connected devices - like an iPad (confirmed with Connection Speed test). My plan states "Unlimited Data".
Questions:
1. Despite "Unlimited Data", will Verizon throttle me down once I reach a certain data threshold?
2. If throttling is the case, will using a VPN app prevent Verizon from throttling my data usage?
Seems too easy. Must be a catch...

lol no, VPN hides who you are from what you are looking at aka the website or streaming service, not how your device accesses the internet aka ISP. You use your ISP to access the VPN, data usage is still data usage.

Using a VPN will actually increase the data usage a bit. It wraps all of your in/outbound traffic to tunnel it through your VPN endpoint.
Been using Verizon's unlimited plans for 8 or so years, only throttling we've seen so far was the HotSpot (was not on the unlimited plan), that was still best effort and worked well.

I think throttling in the context from your article is based on the type of site/resource you're connected to. Some ISPs throttle those who stream videos, music, etc. I don't think a VPN will help you with data limit-based throttling though.

Yes and No.
It depends on your plan. You won’t get throttled all the time once you reach a certain point, but depending on your plan you have a “deprioritization” limit. Once you hit that amount, if you are in an area where the towers are congested, you move to the end of the priority list and will see much slower speeds. Once you are in an area that isn’t congested, it will be to back up.
Certain plans have true unlimited with no deprioritization if that is important to you.

He might think hes getting throttled but his speeds will always decrease using a VPN

OP has no idea what this means, and to what extent.
TCP is slower than UDP. What good does this do the layman? How much slower? Why? Does it matter?
Using a VPN which may decrease throughput by a couple of percentage points (due to every "packet of information" needing to have encryption stuff added to the front and back end of it, which isn't much) and increased latency means nothing to anyone but a few of us.
Nearly everyone's Outlook connection to their work email is encrypted regardless of using a VPN or not, and a lot of people that have to use Mobile Device Management Software (MDM) are already using on-demand VPNs, which obody notices. Your boss still gets on your arse in seconds. OP, when your phone asked your permission to install a "profile" it was generally installing a VPN already. These aren't the days of L2TP and crap from WinNT/Win2000, the right VPN is fine as long as you're not trying to play first person shooters from a server in Australia while you're based on Georgia.

Look up PairVPN in the App Store, and also download the program to install on windows. Their website has instructions for setting it up, but basically you get unlimited hotspot data for use over a local network by tethering your phone to the PC. I use it everyday because the 5G here gets 300-500 mbps on my iPhone lol

Pretty sure the key word there is “specific” - in other words, if your provider throttles tigerdroppings.com traffic it won’t know that’s where your data is going. It would perceive all your traffic as going to, say, vpnsRus.com
