Can you run a smart tv as a "dumb" one?

Suppose I buy a smart tv. I prefer non smart ones but the price might be too good to pass up. Is it possible to avoid activating the smart features?

Had also read somewhere that Samsung smart tv's have malware as well.

I've wondered this as well. I'm using an Android box and i don't need the features on the tv.

I have an HDMI adaptor for my Ipad and a six foot HDMI chord. I just plug it in and use it as I like.

You've got it figured out man. That's much easier than just using the already installed on the TV.
