Am setting up Plex Media Server now. Wish me luck.

And yes, an uncompressed copy of your movie is called a remux. You'll find both 1080p remuxes and 4K remuxes online.
If you don't find that format I go for the web-dl compression because that's usually done by the studios and look great and stream well to your friends.
If neither is available I grab a 4K HDR x.265 encoding.
Honestly all 3 look and sound great and that almost always retain some type of dolby sound but that will vary by movie.
I tend to avoid straight 4k if it doesn't include HDR. I'd rather just grab 1080p.
WARNING: never attempt to grab a torrent from any public tracker like pirate Bay.

Question, in order to save disc space, after I rip a Blu-ray with MKV, can I kill off some of those extras files without harming the main movie?
Download software called Handbrake. This will convert the mkv file to m4v format which will be about 3GB in size. I don’t think the quality suffers all that much, and you save a ton of disk space.

You don't need the extra files. Unless I'm unsure I usually don't even rip them to disk. A lot of that is like special features and the 'video' that plays while you're in the main menu and stuff. If you keep all of it sometimes you can sort of play the DVD like you have the whole disk, but for the most part I don't see the point.

I don't use my main email for anything except legit business. I sure as hell am not using it for my td account.

I have 3 invites at the moment but they tend to show back up again later after using them.

So far so good. But a bit buggy upon install. Working through it.

Set it up in master via Roku box and music is amazing on my Yamaha/Klipsch setup.
I’ve only ripped one movie but it looks great.
Will get with you later about torrent stuff. Do I just send you a PM with the email?

quote:my "friend" has been on various private trackers since the early 2000s and never gotten a DCMA nastygram even with some does that have been seeded for years.
At least not without a good VPN
By contrast you won't get a random movie even halfway downloaded from PB without getting an ugly email.
One day my friend will consider a VPN if Comcast ever figures out how to chase down these trackers.
My guess is 90% of the uneducated masses hit PB type sites so there's no incentive for them to go after the others when they can generate DCMA emails all day long for those users.

my friend has used a VPN to download well over a thousand movies and shows.
He got the nasty email once, when the internet was constantly going in and out and kicking him off the VPN while downloading, which it's been doing again lately. Other than that instance, the last 5 years have been easy going for him using a VPN and downloading movies/shows.
He doesn't use Pirate Bay though.

Yes. My friend figured that out.

you're 90% of the way there. pick up a 14TB WD external drive and with your cat6 infrastructure and high end PC it will be a breeze to push that uncompressed 4K all over your house
Is it possible to use a PC and store these directly onto the NAS? I assume so as long as the NAS is mapped and on my network.
