I'm looking to put security cameras outside with a doorbell camera and a smart thermostat for my AC. Would brand do you recommend for each of these? Thanks.

We use Arlo cams and Google door bell and no complaints. Our thermostats came with our adt home security package.

Nest cams are solid but your options are limited compared to Arlo or Eufy or the like. I like my Nest doorbell much better than the Ring I had before.

What's your budget? Are you looking to avoid monthly subscription costs?
I've installed a couple ecobee 3 for a buddy and i've recently upgraded my thermostat to a Honeywell Home RTH9585WF1004 and really like it. I didnt want something learning my routines, just wanted to be able to set a schedule for cooling off more for bedtime and back to normal in morning. Plus added capability to check/adjust remotely.
I've been liking the Reolink cameras as a mid-tier option. Have a ring doorbell that really isn't needed with the camera coverage i have but wife actually requested that a few years ago

This is exactly the same setup we run.

Yeah, have an older (5.5yr) Lorex 2mp camera/nvr system and dipped into the Reolink when i grabbed some cameras as upgrades to 5mp bullets and a 12mp dome. Put those on the front of house and been running Reolink client on pc and storing to NAS. Since then i've installed 10 Reolink cams for buddy at several of his properties and he really likes them. Have the Reolink NVR for his places as well. He's excited about the release of the 2 new cameras that have the spotlight and siren features

I'm not a fan on the Wifi cameras. I had the Arlo Pro which is pretty top of the line. By the time the camera picked up motion and started recording, the person who was picked up was walking away.

I haven't heard about those, but have the perfect spot for one. We have 8 cams around the house and most of our neighbors don't even know it.

No matter what security cameras and smart thermostat you decide on, consider getting an Ezviz DB1C video doorbell[/b] currently $95 on Amazon. For the money I don't think you can beat it for a nice doorbell cam. I think this cam has more features overall than just about any other door cam, except I don't think it integrates with Alexa, if that matters.
Some of the key features:
- No subscription required.
- Powered via doorbell wires
- IP65 Weatherproof
- Rings existing mechanical chime
- Flat mounting plate plus a 15 degree mounting plate included.
- AI Human Detection
- Adjustable Detection Zone (Rectangle or highlight which pixels on the screen)
- H.265 Video Compression
- Clear HD 1080P picture day or night with Sony Starlight sensor. You can clearly see a person's face. No need to pay for 4K.
- Has wide view but also 170 degree vertical picture which is perfect for seeing packages plus the entire person in front of door.
- Has optional cloud service but I installed a 128GB micro SD card (Max size is 256 GB).
- You can record to micro SD in continuos mode if you want, or just for events. I tried both and switched to just event recording since even in this mode the camera records some number of seconds before the event. We always see the entire motion event starting just before someone steps on our porch.
- Instant notification to phone before person even gets to doorbell.
- When someone rings doorbell they hear a doorbell sound so they know they rang it, plus a snapshot picture instantly pops up on your phone and it has an option to answer or ignore. It looks just like a phone call. If you click the green phone symbol, the app quickly launches where you see them in the video with two way audio.
- The camera app is outstanding. Better than my Reolink and Wyze camera apps.
- Very good customer service. I had a question before I bought it. They answered email within 24 hours and provided a customer support number if I wanted to talk with them before, during or after installation.
The only two cautions.
1) Make sure you get decent Wi-Fi where you are installing it. Add a mesh router system to increase your Wi-Fi coverage if needed.
2) Measure your AC voltage across the doorbell wires. You need to be between 12V to 24VAC. If under 12V, upgrade to a 16V or 24V doorbell transformer.
