Best Buy in Lafayette has some solid deals. Walmart generally has crap, cheap crap, but crap.

They should have the same shite, they only put so much on display but normally have the others. Most look the exact same so no reason to put 5 of the same looking laptop on display.

Are you saying the Walmart laptops had the same specs and cost 2-3x as much? If you've been around computers obviously the newest hardware costs many times as much as stuff that came out a few years ago.

I'm not saying you're wrong, but I'm not sure if I've ever seen a "great laptop" on sale for $600. Link to what you bought?

You'll be back to Walmart in a year buying another POS, it's a vicious cycle. These days, you get what you pay for on computers. A $1500 Macbook or Dell XPS will serve you years.

I've been keeping an eye on gaming laptops from a few sites lately. The ones with the best deals (like a 16-inch or 17-inch with a 3070 or 3080 with an i7 or i9 with 16-32g ram for around $2,500-$2,800) are all pretty much sold out. No idea what's going on with the market but I've never seen so many companies (Omen, IBuyPower, etc) with so many models sold out.

You would think BTC is spiking again.

You get what you pay for. If you just want to google dumb-shite and play solitare, you're probably ok. If you want to do anything else you might have issues.

Just got an XPS 15 (9520) from BestBuy for $2500 shipped to my door.

You'll be back in line in a year or 2.

Agree on all of this.

The cheaper stuff is always tempting, but I spend $2500 on a well-built laptop and get great performance for 7-9 years.

Granted.....in the last 2-3 years of ownership, new tech has surpassed me, but I can still stretch it out a bit.

I spent $3500 on a MBP in 2019 and will be upgrading in 2024. I'm guessing it will be $4500 minimum but it will last me until we phase out old thick client based architecture by 2030.

I need the power to run virtual machines. Once all of our software becomes cloud based I will just need a fancy web browser.

The only reason you should buy a laptop at retail is to test the keyboard and look at the screen. Lenovo, HP, and Dell, all run hardcore specials seemingly all the time.

Just like cars, don't wait until you're desperate to make computer purchases. You probably could have scored a better deal at Costco or Sam's, let alone a place like NewEgg.
