Looking for the best windows based business laptop.

I've done extensive research and was hoping to get a clear verdict from the tech board. I've looked at past threads/online, so I apologize for another which Laptop thread but I don't wanna screw this up.

Price: N/A. Works paying for it (only this one time)
Uses: typical finance/business, excel, etc
Important: speed, battery, screen, keyboard, windows based, portability

I've narrowed it down but still very open to whatever else. In no order:

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon
Dell Precision 15-5510
Microsoft Surface Pro
Microsoft Surface Laptop
HP specter x360 15

It doesn't have to be any of these and I'm leaning away from a 2 and 1 since I don't want to compromise speed and I'm not really sure how much I'd use the tablet features.

Finally, I can wait up to 3 months or so (maybe more) if a newer model is coming out that's worth it. I'm looking to keep this Laptop for at least 6+ years as I did my old Mac, if possible.

Thanks in advance for all of your help. It's very much appreciated

If it matters to you, Dell will have the best support.

Microsoft typically has awesome hardware.

My company had terrible luck with HP hardware and went back to Dell. The only reason we switched from Dell was it took so long to receive orders from them, but now they sell through resellers as well.

HP support is garbage compare with Dell.

I think Lenovo is solid but have not had any tech support experience with them.

Better then Dell's IMO.

I would go with the Lenovo. Plan on getting one for myself too

Out of that list, I'd go with Lenovo or Dell.

Surface Pro is fantastic but doesnt sound like youll use all its features. Surface laptop still needs revisions before i could recommend it.

I've purchased several Dell Precision 7510s in the past year and they are awesome. They just came out with the 7520 and I put one of those in service last week and it seemed great as well. I highly recommend. I've been using Precision models for a while now, and the new iteration is by far the best. I'm not familiar with the exact differences between the 5510 and the 7510, though.

Support
We've been a Dell shop for about 10 years now and their business support is really good. I get basic Next Business Day support (hardware only) as opposed to Pro Support (hardware and software). If you have a hardware issue, the process is super simple. Just run Preboot System Assessment and note any error codes returned, then get on Dell's chat support and describe the issue, trouble shooting performed, and any error codes received. They might walk you through a few more troubleshooting steps, but once those all fail to fix the issue (and they always fail to fix the issue), they will dispatch parts and a technician to replace the malfunctioning parts on site.

I'm thinking the Lenovo. Support feature isn't very high on my list

I am still toying with the idea of the surface pro but I just think I'm trying to buy something because it's cool/high tech but I won't really utilize the features

I have a Surface Pro 4 and while I like it I would love it if it din't have the freezeup issue. It freezes up at times for 15-20 seconds then recovers. I ahve tried everything to resolve it even reloading the OS which has helped some. It's a known issue and Microsoft hasn't figured out a fix for it.

Reddit thread on the issue

Disagree we dropped Dell because of terrible support moved to HP

Left Dell and a large contract with them because they could not support the servers in a quick turnaround. Maybe contract was too big for them. Been with HP for 5 years and zero issues

Lenovo has good support also

I have a one year old Elitebook. Nothing special about it but can't complain. Does freeze for minutes at a time when opening/editing random excel files. Files don't nessesarily have to be big either. IT says there's nothing wrong with it. I say gfy.

Not a problem with the computer.

Try running Excel in safe mode (maybe type excel /safe in run box) and see if the problem goes away.

Such as? I recently got it and really like it so far.

OP, I would tell you get the Surface Laptop over a Pro if you go Microsoft since you don't need the tablet feature.
