You don't rent it, but you have to have their Gateway for security certificates. You would have to run your orbi as an AP or else it would be throttled. I have read of a way for ubiquity equipment to be used without the supplied gateway.

If you find a link, I would be interested. Moving in a couple of months to where I will have ATT fiber and I'm planning to buy Ubiquiti equipment for the new house.

Yea I just moved and that's what I'm doing. I've been watching eBay for deals on equipment.

Here is the link from the ubiquity forum.

I've got an Ubiquiti router and don't see the need to go through that mess. As long as you have the Arris BGW210 gateway, you can put it in IP passthrough mode and get great performance. I think the Pace gateway can't do IP passthrough though.

I wish AT&T would just allow personal routers without all the bullshite.

You packets are still going through your gateway. Would you or me or most people see the difference, probably not. But still it is kinda the FU to att for requiring the gateway to begin with.

And btw I have gone through 3 different bgw210s. All have broke. They really suck.

Can you request one vs the other from ATT?

Doesn’t seem like you can request what you want. I called them up and told them I wanted the latest and greatest gateway they had. They said sure we can send you one and swap it out for no charge. I got the package in the mail and wouldn’t you know it’s the same exact model I got 3 years ago.

Geez. I had 300Mbps for $50 and upgraded to 1Gbps for just another $10 which included HBOMax. (But I'm in a different location which might matter.) I had called and complained about something, which usually seems to help.

I'm coming up in August, plan to speak to their retention dept and see if I can keep my current promo pricing. I've read online that people have been able to do that.

yea you can. But i have terrible luck with that. Not with ATT i have gotten to retentions and to the point of them being ok with canceling and i back out. They call my bluff ever time. I have a buddy that gets it done all the time.

the past 2 years i have gotten the people in the chat to give me the discount, but at this moment they cant. i havent gotten to retentions yet.

Not sure how but I'm locked in at $59.99/mo for Gigabit for life. Been paying that rate for over 2 years now.

That's what they gave me. I think I called in to cancel my trial of HBOMax and that's when they gave me this deal for Gigabit which includes it.

Of course with AT&T spinning off TimeWarner, I expect that perk to disappear at some point but that just takes it from a great deal with an extra to a great deal.
