Most people don't know once you move to the actual.1 GB speed you're actually moving to a data internet plan. I stayed with 100mbs and its plenty fast with no data caps.

They've been deploying it in the Abita, Mandeville, Covington area for several months now. I have a few friends that have it. They dug my neighborhood and put in conduit and new hand-holes... but not available for me yet
Just checked today and it's available! Already signed up and scheduled an install. 1GB $90.

Congrats! So, do you have those AT&T white poles with the orange cap coming out of the ground? That is what we have installed (dug up and installed) here like a year ago and we got nothin.

There's a sign in our neighborhood (Where Denham and Walker meet) that says AT&T gigapower coming soon.
They're boring underground lines now.
I will get it IF it's not capped.

I've had gigapower in Covington for a couple months - wifi down is about 180mbps with 400 up.
Hard wired is about 450mbps down and up

I got to try it out when I did my job training for AT&T. All I'll say is that it is nice.

When is this coming to the Elmwood / Jefferson area that's West of New Orleans some? Anyone know or have a rough timeline they might be aware of?

No idea, they don't really say. I just saw them digging and laying conduit in my neighboorhood and I've been checking here every morning for the past like 4 months or so

Well if it takes 4+ months even after they're in your area, I'm looking at late 2018 or 2019. Meh.
Was looking to upgrade to that and then get a 4k TV and not get charged overages out the arse.

The only subdivision in Kenner that I know for sure has it is Gabriel, the subdivision built on the site of Jefferson Downs. One of my co-workers did an install there the other day. I'm hoping that Chateau lakefront, Chateau, Place Ponchartrain and Woodlake get it eventually.
In St. Rose so far Highland Oaks is the only subdivision with it.

Anyone know how it compares to Cox gig service? Also anyone know when it will be in the Lafayette area?

Depends on where you are. Apparently some Cox areas are fiber and it's synchronous 1Gb connections. I know they will be pushing 1Gb down with Docsis 3.1 but it won't be near that on the upload. Don't know if they are pushing that out anywhere yet though.

Does anyone know if there is a way to find out where they are currently running the fiber updates? I ask because I have At&t and am not sure I I can take the 18mbps speeds much longer.

They stay pretty quiet. You can check the link I posted earlier for your specific address. Also there is a thread on dslreports with people posting their neighborhoods when they get gigabit turned on.

Thanks, I have noticed one of the boxes in my front yard has a new line coming off of it,currently laying in my yard that wasn't there a week are so ago. I am fairly certain it is an AT&T line.

If it's a thick orange tube and an AT&T box or hand hole, that is probably conduit for fiber.

I'll have to take a better look at it when I get home today but I believe that may be similar to what you described.
