Are you going over your cellular data plan too?

Yes "wrong board" I know, but I don't care because I am going to ask anyway...

For some reason, I have been burning through my data plan (with AT&T) the last two months and going over where I had never done that before in the past. I was telling one of the girls in the office about this and she asked me if I had my Wifi Assist on? I had no idea what that even was but it was on. She said that one of the updates that she did a couple of months ago turned this on where she had it off before that. She thinks that this is the reason that I have gone over my data the last two months…which has cost me money because I had to buy more data each time. Does anyone know if she is right? Like I mentioned before, I had never gone over before 2 months ago.

I was every month until I bought a better router for my home. Now I don't use any cell data at the house where as before, a sizable portion of my house was not covered.

New router paid for itself in no time.

When I am on my phone at home, I see the three bands lit up indicating that I am on WiFi. As long as I see that, I'm ok, right?

Yes. You to uncheck the option in iOS to all app updates over LTE/Cellular

Thank you for posting this. Same issue. Our wifi is constantly sucking at home, so wifi assist has likely been kicking on a ton. I have 10gb & have been going over regularly, despite being on wifi at home & work.

Be Careful. Those unlimited plans AT&T is offering have a lot of fine print about throttling.

That's at 22 gb per line

Still quite a bit higher than most people's limited data plans

On my Samsung I have had this happen a couple of times. Once was GoSMS app and another time was Facebook.

You can turn-off background data use by apps. Analyze which apps are hogging the most data in the background(not sure how to do this on ios).

I went on vacation last summer and my wife's uncle was sick. We were talking about WW2 and I told him about the HD color documentaries.

I set the TV up and since we were camping on a houseboat in BFE I used my phone for the internet.
I left came back eight hours later and the shows were still going.

I had tons of messages from att, they charge you $15 for every 1GB over.

I had racked up a quick $85 in data overages.

I share with my daughter. Her stupid teenage arse was watching fricking Youtube and Netflix on the bus for a few weeks. Nipped that shite in the bud.

I thought it was 22gb total for about $10 more a month. I could dig it for 22gb each. I'll go check. .

There's a wifi boost setting on iPhones you have to turn off so it won't use LTE while on Wifi

I have unlimited and get throttled when I reach a certain point but to be honest, I usually don't notice the difference
