Apple Watch worth it?
Been on the fence for years about an Apple Watch. Got some Christmas cash I was thinking about using on one. For those with one...do you find it’s worth it?

My main drawback is that anything you can do on the watch you can do on your phone. I do run occasionally and guess it would be good for that but anything else I’m missing out on?

For me it was the workout capabilities. You'd be surprised how much you actually want to close those rings.

But basically, I had a fitbit and enjoyed using it, and the Apple Watch is the fitbit with more capabilities.

I have the GPS-Non LTE version, and yes, as you pointed out...

anything you can do on the watch you can do on your phone.

But a lot of times, using the watch comes in handy by itself. For instance, you have 8GB space to store things like music.

So, it you want to go workout/run/hike and leave your phone at home, you can still have music to listen to.

If you want two have two cell phones, pay the extra for the LTE version, because that's basically what you'll be paying for.

I have a job where I can’t pull out my phone on the clock. My watch lets me check and send messages. That is the only reason I got one.

Ideal gift to receive as you don't NEED it.

I still bought my own and enjoy it very much.

I think it is. I don't sit around thinking about how much I love it, but I'm annoyed when I forget it.

I answer calls on it when my phone is in the other room. I read and respond to texts on the go without pulling out my phone. It gives me alerts relating to my alarm, doorbell, security cameras, etc. I stop and start audiobooks and music without reaching for my phone. Check the weather, set the alarm, use map directions, etc.

This is the wrong way to think about it.

Think of it as a notification center for your wrist. Instead of having to pull your phone out of your pocket, or have it on you all the time walking around the house, you get texts, emails, calls, any number of app updates, all from your wrist. You can use Siri to send texts, emails, call, etc.
There's also a ton of use as a fitness tracker. Apple has their own Activity app that tracks movement, calories, exercise, stand time, steps. Has the Nike Run app to help track runs. Pretty sure I read it has the most reliable heart rate tracker in a wearable as well.

If you don't find any of that useful, I wouldn't get one. It's not another device to have a ton of screen time on, it's basically a phone extension.

Yes. Wear mine cutting grass, running, working out and so on. Been a year and a half. Only issues as of today is I have to recharge it once a day for about 20-30 mins. If I cut grass or have a long workout where I use watch for music; then I have charge for 15 mins to make it through the day.

Got one for Christmas and like it a lot so far.

It charges super fast too, let mine drain to 0 then put it on the charger and noticed about 40 min later it was at 100%

do y'all get apple care with these?

I went ahead an ordered a nike series 3 today.

Looked for a series 2 but they were hard to find and when I did the price difference wasn't enough. I figured go with the faster processor and memory as it will serve me better long term with apps and updates

I don’t think much aside from the band and maybe a few little things with the apps, they’re the same price

I was mostly looking at fitness trackers but then decided on a happy medium between the two

re: Apple Watch worth it?
question what's the range typically on these from phone to watch....like can I leave my phone in my locker or does it need to be in the same general area?

Love mine. Don’t use the fitness capabilities at all. But for email, texts, calendar, notifications and turn by turn navigation it’s fantastic. I punch in an address for work on my phone, set my phone down and don’t have to touch it again while on the road. Turn your wrist quickly towards your face and the watch provides a quick glance at the map, how far you are before the next turn, the current time and your ETA. As you approach each turn, the phone vibrates to provide haptic feedback to let you know to turn. If you use navigation a lot it will be a huge efficiency upgrade for never having to take your eyes off the road and look down and press buttons again.

In meetings, you never have to pull out your phone. Just casually glance at your watch to see who texted, emailed or is trying to call. Tap or scribble out quick responses without ever reaching for your phone. I’ve actually answered a few calls and had conversations Dick Tracy-style. It’s better than you may think. Not perfect, but useful.

Office and work productivity are big deals for me and the Apple Watch shines for me in that regard. Very pleased with its battery life and how quickly it charges. Owned it over a year now and 100% charge lasts over 30 hours. It charges back to 100% in hours if that.

Great product in my experience.

A guy I work with has an apple watch 3 with LTE and im really impressed with it. Ive never really been interested in the wearables but having a watch with its own cellular service would be really handy since you dont need to carry your phone with you to use the watch functions.

$10 a month data plans seem like a real cash grab by the carriers, how much data can you really be using on those ?

This is a big no. The exercise part of the phone is terrible. Wouldn't count steps or work outs correctly for multiple people I know. My wife sold hers for a Fitbit. Three coworkers did the same. Terrible even with the under armour apps. The phone part of it can't be beat though. So if getting it for messaging and things of that nature, it's great
