There are crushing information security issues, including control of TPMs (trusted platform modules, used for encryption and authentication) being in the hands of the CCP. Bad. Bad. Bad.

I truly believe that TSMC will end up shifting all of their production to somewhere other than Taiwan. The Chinese are coming. No western country (well, there's always the Germans) will permit tech with Taiwan produced chips (if under the control of CCP) to be used in infrastructure, (and they shouldn't permit it in consumer products either).

For you non techies, this is primarily a function of three issues:
1) Inability to verify that software updates don't introduce backdoors (Qatar and China already do this, but to insert at the almost hardware level is game over)

2) Introduce vulnerabilities at the hardware level by forced design changes, in phones, tablets, and PCs, and the game just isn't over, it was over ten years before you thought it was over. I've seen this happen.

3) Control of hardware/encryption modules gives the key owner (which is the CCP, Apple, Google, you, etc) complete control of all data on the device, and all of the devices and services (iCloud, GoogleF$*kMy Privacy, etc.)

I'll get into non-repudiation if someone tries to sharpshoot me, but almost nobody cares, even though it matters.

Then again, China doesn't need to do much when half of this country is posting shite on TikTok every 4 mins. I'm amazed that app is not banned in this country. It should be.

Do you really think it would be better in the hands of the U.S. government?

I made a decision that the iPhone I currently use is the last one I will own. It’s paid for so there is no reason to buy a Samsung right now but I will be replacing all Apple products I own moving forward.
I just need to make sure I get all my cloud stored stuff transferred onto something prior to getting rid of them.
