Apple has sued OpenAI for trade secret theft

Apple isn't in the AI race, they lost that a long time ago. Well never really entered the race is more like it.

Hence the OpenAI deal and now Gemini replacing Siri. They botched AI about as poorly as possible.

eta they were the only legit threat to tesla and had the deep pockets to pull off an iCar given their understanding of both needing the product (iphone) and ecosystem (app store/supercharger network) to succeed and instead they wasted billions and tossed in the towel with nothing to show for it.

eta now elon is going after the home robot market and apple is ....doing what?

To be fair, innovation is risky and expensive. Apple just does that where they absolutely have to (chips). It’s much easier for them to increase profits by controlling the ecosystem, lobbying congress, influencing regulators, and make back end deals with telcos. Those things have predictable results as does increasing sales and marketing budgets.

Elon is on a planet of his own in the Western system. Really if you put all his big gigafactories onto the same campus, then Tesla would be indistinguishable from most major Chinese companies: vertically integrating with full engineering control over their products with fast and flexible iteration. Still, even with Tesla, you see the inevitable shift away from innovation and towards financial engineering. Fortunately they still move so fast that their focus is on breaking down barriers instead of setting up new ones like Apple.

amazing to me. apple controls one thing..the phone market (to some degree) and they can choose the chips and kitten wrangle the app developers. but here's what they lost sight of focusing on this:

- vr/ar glasses and the chips and OS
- starlink/modems/routing infrastructure (remember apple base stations?)
- EVs (5 miles worth of electronics in those things and growing) and the OS
- robo taxis
- AI and data centers
- optimus robots

sure they get the best price on qualcomm iphone chips but sure feels like they're on the road to irrelevance. what is the last innovative thing apple's done? the billion dollar UFO campus?

We share a vehicle and depending on who the last person is who drove it, it either connects to Apple car play or android auto.

When my wife wins we're stuck using Apple maps and I literally shake my head at how terrible it is compared to either Google maps or Waze.

Google maps lets you turn on full time satellite view and Waze of course is watching the road and looking out for cops and letting you know there's a red light camera at the next intersection.

Apple maps is fricking terrible in every way. I can't believe people with iPhones are stuck using that.

You’re probably right I’m sure almost all who post a lot on this board know way more about it’s ins and outs than I do.

I just simply haven’t heard about apple being very aggressive

All I see is their stupid data centers for stuff no one wants and has yet to show any viable commercial or professional case study justification for how much we are putting into it, while all my hobbies get more expensive as a direct consequence

I will admit it likely has very promising military applications, but I don’t think they need to buy out all the ram from the only 3 companies who operated direct to customer

I admit I am likely not as knowledgeable as the people who frequent this board but what exactly is the demand for AI in areas like recreation and general use for average people?

What has AI been able to do in a commercial setting? There’s been many many different attempts at measuring this in work places where AI has been forcefully implemented.

I say forcefully because usually in these cases the majority of the employees don’t want it, and it has been found to not increase productivity at all, it’s actually more likely to make whatever business it is jammed into have less output


I’m sure there will eventually emerge use cases for it but it’s insane that we (the collective we as in the people who make up the country collectively) are standing by while they barrel forward with this completely throwing anyone who has hobbies in electronics in flux unless you like paying more and as for these data centers when AI inevitably doesn’t produce the generational wealth places like Microsoft have invested a ton in planning on it materializing I will make a prediction that they will end up just being where the video game industry pivots trying to make us all live out the famous you’ll own nothing and be happy while they use them for cloud gaming and intend for us not to own our games or hardware and pay a monthly subscription

I mean I have an iPhone and use Google Maps on CarPlay. Your wife can too. Odd rant.
