I'm also cross shopping with the Surface Book, but they're really expensive for the top spec. I've had Apple computers for 12 years, going back to Windows feels wrong.

Well now I'm just confused as shite on Apple's product strategy. The MacBook pro is now lighter, smaller than the MacBook air.

So the Air is obsoleted or is the regular MacBook? So confused with where 1 starts and ends and the other product line starts and ends. It used to be black and white, now it's definitely gray and confusing.

Did they make it touche screen or is it just the touch bar? I couldnt tell for sure from reading the tech crunch blog post.

What's the verdict? I'm in the market for a new laptop. Should I just get last year's model?

I've never had a Mac and I know they are overpriced but I want to see what the fuss is all about.

I am a heavy word and excel user with light video editing needs (once a month).

Apple unofficially killed the MacBook Air today. It hasn't been updating in a while now and never got Retina display.

Now the lineup is as follows:

MacBook (12" entry level mac; no TouchBar)
MacBook Pro (13" mid level to replace the MacBook Air; no TouchBar)
MacBook Pro 13" with TouchBar
MacBook Pro 15" with TouchBar

I love Mac and I was SUPER disappointed today. They added some functionality to the Macbook.....but it took 4 years to get that? Give me a fricking break. At least Microsoft is actively trying to innovate. This was a big let down.

I've had High end Lenovo Thinkpads for the past 10 years. They are incredible but I'm wanting to try something new.

Any suggestions?

i'm probably not the best since i'm still rocking an 8 year old mac

in terms of user experience, i have always preferred mac to pc, especially if you are an iphone user. if you just want a quality word/excel machine with some other capability, maybe look into a dell xps 13. they can be had for $800 on occasion.

I was not expecting this steep of a price increase. I had my eyes on the 15", but at $2399 that is a no go.

13" MacBook Pro with Touch Bar in space grey ordered.

That price tag puts you in the top end Surface Book range right?

But with no touch screen and no tablet only mode? (presumably since nobody answered my questions)

eta: yes, this puts it at top end Surface book i7 range according to endgaget

Hoping my 14' Air lasts another 10 years at this specs and prices. Paid $600 just 2 years ago for my Air.

A bit disappointed after seeing what Microsoft trotted out yesterday. I felt their dial was much more functional than the touch bar. Especially when it can be used with the surface book, surface pro, and the surface desktop.

Long time apple/mac fan.... i recently picked up the 12 inch MacBook for myself and love it.

Somewhat disappointed in today's releases. My wife needs a new laptop, I'll just get her the previous generation MacBook Pro 13 inch refurbished as it's a way better value.

The new entry level MacBook Pro 13 without the touch strip should be $1299, not $1499.
