Clearly you haven't tried CBS Access. They take it to a whole new level of unbearability. Hulu is bad. CBS, ramped to 11.

I changed the krypton skin to confluence so it looks like Jarvis. Wasn't a fan of the default skin.

How to update kodi on fire tv.

Very simple.

EDIT

Apparently this link only updates from 16.1 to 17.1 which is the update I needed and it worked well.

It may be better to do as a few people below suggested and just delete the old version and put the new one on.

I tried that and no work. If you read his disclaimer he says that process works for incremental updates but not for a full version update.

Don't use ES File Explorer. The new, much easier app is to use the "Downloader" app from the play store. here is a tutorial. LINK

I tried it on 2 FTV boxes, 1 first gen and 1 2nd gen, both failed in upgrading. Krypton would start and then crash to a black screen. Reading the comments on your link, this seems pretty common.

i saw something about setting it back to the default 'skin' first before upgrading. i assume you did that first?

i'm all for a clean install.

if i take that approach, wouldn't it be better to just install downloader and use that instead?

why stick with es explorer?

Never went the downloader route I guess... I have the kodi bookmark in es explorer so it takes no time at all. Are there advantages to downloader over ES?

ES interface was always clunky to me. Downloader has a much better interface and even has a built in web browser with mouse-like capabilities using the FTV remote....although I haven't used it much. To me, downloader is leaps and bounds ahead of ES....up until I discovered Downloader, i still used ADB on my laptop to push Kodi rather than use ES.

ES Explorer was easy for me. I may try the downloader next time.

I was getting pop ups from it after I installed Kodi. Always have to delete ES after use. I may try that Downloader app next time. Looking at the tutorial that was posted it's donation ware which is much better than what ES Explorer has become.

This is what I'm thinking of doing except trying it with Downloader so I guess I could still use zappa's tutorial.

Ok, did a clean install. THat was easy with Downloader.

How do I get a pack of add-ons with Krypton? I remember getting Kodi the first time with Jarvis 16.1 and it came with a bunch of things like Fusion and Exodus, etc. Is there something like that for 17.1 and can someone link me to it or do I have to do 1 add-on at a time?
