I feel like it m getting overcharged by local company. And the seo charges to manage the campaign are really high. Is this something I can do myself relatively easily? Any help appreciated. And if it’s something you or someone you know does I’m happy to reach out. Thanks in advance.

Just advertise on facebook. How much are you paying for the website?

Whole lot of factors go into this equation.

Are you selling anything? Product or service? Local/national/global?

How often is the site updated? What type of content? Do you know the software/platform used to run the site?

Are they doing a lot of "SEO" stuff or mostly running ads? Does the site currently rank well in the "organic" search results? Is it improving?

I can't really put a lot of time into it right now, but if you email me at my username at gmail I'd be happy to take a look and let you know if I think your site is something a novice could do, and also estimate how much time you might expect to spend on it doing it yourself.

The standard advice I've given is this: You can list it on upwork.com and a freelancer could do it for as little as $100 for a simple blog or informational website.

I wouldn't trust someone from Upwork or Freelancer to run my marketing campaign unless, and only maybe if, they can provide a verifiable track record of success. Also, success marketing service X does not always translate into success marketing service Y. Most services/widgets have a certain marketing nuance requiring you to be intimately familiar with the product and end-user to come up with a meaningful campaign. I can guarantee you Rajish from Upwork does not understand that nuance.

As for the website, again, Upwork and Freelancer can be hit or miss. There is a saying, "I suppose it is tempting, if the only tool you have is a hammer, to treat everything as if it were a nail". WordPress is the "hammer" of Upwork and Freelancer. Most on there are just going to set you up a shitty WordPress or other CMS that is slow and bloated, if they don't just up and quit halfway through with your milestone money. I know because I make decent money fixing these Upwork/Freelancer sites. Not to say you can't find success there, but make sure you do some heavy vetting before hiring just anyone if you choose to go that route. I'd probably also stick with only using US developers to increase your chance of success.

Yeah, I agree with this. There are certainly good devs in foreign countries. Typically the better their English the higher the success rate. I think foreign devs that abandon projects often do so out of frustration usually caused by language barrier, lack of technical understanding by the hirer or too much scope creep. Another cavaet with foreign devs is if they do leave you high and dry you have no real recourse. At least with US devs, even though you may not pursue it over a couple hundred dollar job, there is the looming possibility if they screw you over they could be legally held accountable.

You absolutely can not do a good job yourself. There is so much to learn and implement.

I started learning about 3 years ago, have multiple affiliate websites and still feel I am average at best.

That said, if you are not trying to rank national keywords it should be pretty easy.

For a reference, I am spending $500 a month on content, $1,000 a month on link building and that is not including any of my time.

So $1500/month plus labor doing it yourself.

OP, do you still feel that you are being overcharged?

Thanks all. It is a simple informational website really. No selling or payment taking on website, and I haven't made any changes to it since I had it built. Korkstand I think I will send you an email and let me know what you think. Thanks again

Surfer SEO and others are a good tool to use for insights on things you can do. You can also just google SEO checklist and start implementing the things you can do yourself.

Outsourcing what you cannot do or feasibly learn yourself is a good strategy. I saw Upwork was mentioned on here. You can also try Fiverr.com to find contractors with scores of good reviews.

Surfer is a game changer. Surprised to see someone here even knowing what it is.
