Good deal on Newegg right now..about $100 off normal price.
Before I buy....does anyone have experience with these? HOw do they compare to the ring? Any good or bad experiences?

google has
- home
- nest
- a search engine
amazon has
- alexa
- ring
- access to your bank account
apple has
- siri
- homekit
- a phone
- vendor lock-in
right now google and amazon are killing it because they serve everyone and are scooping up smart companies to outfit your home.
not sure who is going to be able to compete with that. google screwed themselves by not realizing voice-control was so important and alexa firmly established itself as the leader even though google's massive search AI should have squashed alexa like a fly.
nest and ring are in very similar shape right now; both are owned by 2 of the largest companies on the planet but their products are still 'meh' at best and whichever one CLEARLY becomes head and shoulders above the other will likely win. they both have tons of problems considering they are owned by 2 technical juggernauts.
'ok google' is a horrible default keyword too. i feel i'm gargling fluid in my mouth everytime i try to say that out loud without sounding like a douche.

I use "hey Google" but it too does feel awkward.

Just about everyone says Nest Hello is what a video doorbell should be. People have switched from Ring to Nest. Downside is monthly subscription cost more. It also records 24/7 which may cause issues with internet (datacaps, etc...-This statement may not be accurate, but I think I heard this concern)
Eta: its not $100 off regular price

I've had the Hello for about a month now. Pretty sweet. I also have 5 outdoor cams, let me know if you have any questions. I recommend any Nest products

which begs the question; is amazon going to fix ring's issues first or simply 'low ball' nest by throwing cloud storage in for free if you have prime

I still rather Ring Pro, played around with both a bunch. Neighbor has Hello.

Depends on if Amazon/Ring follows through with the Alarm. If they follow through with the Alarm and have unlimited cloud storage and a fully functional Alarm system for $10 a mont or $100 a year, it's gonna spin the entire alarm system market on it's head.
I don't trust Google shite in my home. They are getting as bad as Facebook. They've abandoned the Don't be Evil motto long ago. At least I know where I stand with Amazon, they want to sell me shite and that's fine.

I have a dumb question about the Hello. Can I just wire my red and black wires to the Hello and be done? Or do I have to do some crazy shite with my chimes and install some other device into that?
Read somewhere it can get involved.

I preordered one (that actually came with a free google home). There is some wiring into your door bell and the location on your door frame, but it was fairly simple. If you can wire a door bell or install a new electrical outlet/switch, you should be able to handle it.
I agree that the biggest downside to Nest is the subscription based model they have adapted for their products. It is insane to charge what they do (and for each camera) for storage of that video and the additional features. I really hope amazon does start offering free storage for a certain amount of time to force Google into meeting that offering.

Yes depending on your chime. But it's two wires and it comes with it.

ring is a 'rolling 2 months' and '1 minute clips' type of thing so they can plan for how much storage you might theoretically use in the cost. even if you 'star' a video you have to download it or lose it at the 2 month mark.
i guess that will cover most scenarios (are you going to wait longer than 2 months to report a crime?) but its very 'apple like' in that you really dont get much choice here.
i do like the fact it 'prerecords' and catches movement the instance it happens since it does take 5-15 seconds to wind its way through the web to your phone.
i'm not blown away by my ring spotlight by any stretch but it works with very little headache and the wife gets the alerts on her phone and can watch the videos and at the end of the day, thats all we need out of this.
also my damn ring goes off about 100x a day when my little guy is running around outside. i cant seem to turn off recording, but i can snooze the notification on my phone for up to 2 hours at a time.
damn good thing i have an android watch or this thing would go off constantly during the day when i'm in meetings..err...'posting on TD'.
