Android users- Have you noticed the slow trickle of iphone users moving over the RCS text?

Seems like about once a day the text bubbles change colors on a new person that can now do RCS text. Apparently it is part of the IOS 18 update. But I have no idea how they do that rollout and if it is all optional or ever forced.

I've got a long running group of 8 or so that I think 6 are apple people, I'll be interested to see how long it takes to make that group pure.

RCS is enabled by default with iOS 18 update.

They will look the exact same as other android users that use RCS.

Your text has a different color and there will be rcvd/read receipt icons in the text window along with "typing" notifications.

And videos won't look like they were taken on a 90's camcorder.

You also need to be using Google's Message app to get RCS messages. If you aren't using it, you are now the problem and not iphone users

Android users, switch to Google Message for text. It's probably a little different than what you are used to, but well worth the switch.

Android user here. I switched to Google texting about 5 years ago. Can't wait for all the IPhone people in the group texts switch over. Fingers crossed.

It seems that nobody I know keeps their iPhones updated. The only iPhone user I see on RCS is the one I specifically asked to upgrade so we could test it.

Yea, that's what I'm not sure about, how they are doing the roll out. I think I have 2 friends that upgraded right away. But I've had to push a bunch of others to force the update.

same...rollout has been very slow and I've had to show a few friends how to manually update their phones.

but luckily it is enabled by default so there is no action as other users' iphones are eventually updated they will be on RCS by default.

It is available to everyone but iOS does not auto update to a new OS. It will auto update to revisions within an iOS release automatically. So if you are on 17 and 17.1 comes out, it will auto update. Going from 17 to 18 will not be automatic. People have to go in and manually request the iOS upgrade.

Man thats shitty. I did notice while helping friends update that they were even behind on minor updates with 17.x being an update option as well.

iOS pings people to upgrade, some people just ignore the ping. It even gives you the option to upgrade while it's charging at night. Too many people just don't care.

If they have a work phone and have a decent IT department, they will force updates to keep it secure.

Anything to iPhone X can get the upgrade, so it's not a very restrictive upgrade.

They will still be releasing iOS 17 updates. They were probably not behind. There have been new iOS 17 security updates since iOS 18 was released. Apple has enough company phone customers who will not update to new OS releases for a long time so they dont force it. They dont want the company phone customers to get pissed off.

sure, but you said

and i was just pointing out i don't think this is automatic either since everyone had a pending minor update as well (XX.xx).

Pretty funny on the list of people I have text from there is a different rcs text bubble on the contact icon that is outing all of my contacts for which ones have done the update and who hasn't. I still don't have a full group chat where everyone in the group is updated.
