I think right now just one.
I pay for Google Music
I get Youtube Music and Red for free.
You could also probably pay for Youtube music and get google music free also. I'm not sure what this extra stuff is.

I also just read anybody with the grandfathered plan will not see any changes once youtube music takes over.

I feel gay for using GPM and YTM but y'all made me lazy
YTM is much much better at the custom playlist. It shits on the roll the dice or whatever it is called.
I hate with a passion the way you go back to the main menu on GPM. YTM has it at the bottom. I honestly can't wait for the change. I use offline music now in GPM and online with with YTM

Yeah YTM is better in every way, it's a very welcome change I've hated the interface of GPM for awhile now both the app and desktop version.
Desktop YTM is just basically youtube so it's pretty nice.

I downloaded yt music when I heard it'd be switching. Every song I played showed up on my regular YouTube history making it impossible to go back and find actual non music videos I just watched.

They are supposed to be working on a fix to this. it will be a setting in the YouTube app where ytm stuff doesn't show up

It is more for branding, YouTube is the most popular video player in the world, Google play music is relatively unknown. They feel they can compete with spotify, Pandora, etc with the YouTube brand behind them

ok i bit the bullet & did the $7.99 thing.
i know for instance there's multiple versions of 'pity for the self' on youtube by poise noire (i like lots of obscure late 80s/early 90s crap) and there was only the 'instrumental' version on google music.
sure enough, on youtube music there is also only the 'instrumental version'.
so big scrub is onto something; this does appear to be the same library.

I just searched that song on mine and had about 10 different versions under the "videos" section. Now, I've never heard of that song, so it may be the same version with just different uploaders, but they all seemed like different versions to me

I completely agree, Google is awful at marketing it's services at times, but it seems they are making an effort to correct that. They put out a ton of commercials for Duo.
I think GPM was a clumsy interface also, it might have been easier for them to start over vs redesigning the GPM app. Add to it the brand of YouTube, and I think it will be successful. I have been using YouTube music since the new launch, and I love it. TMobile it about to give away one free year of Pandora plus, so I may be swapping to that soon though

I know it is. It plays some of my one off's from my downloading days. It also uses the algorithm from GPM to choose the next songs.
