what type of hard drive do you have? another possibility if its magnetic is to see if you can update it to SSD which could potentially be a huge help especially when booting up.

when i upgraded my 2007 asus laptop to windows 7 i also swapped the drive for an SSD and it have to say it made all the difference in the world. in 2014 it was booting up and running better than when i bought it new.

its going to be more work to swap the drive (not sure how easily you can access the drive on that model) but its going to get you a few more miles out of that laptop.

Is it the older school non-retina version that is a little chunkier than the current models? If so, those came with mechanical hdds that are slow, I believe. Drop a decent SSD in there and it'll be a huge difference.

Has nothing to do with Windows though

Eh. We're talking about complete systems. Not Windows 10 in a vacuum. Discussions about macs are the combo of hardware and software.

I would be remiss if I didn't include the value of being able to use Logic Pro X (for an extra $200) that is my favorite DAW and comes with insanely good plugins and virtual instruments. It is so great for recording and mixing because it runs so smoothly. No drivers issues, reduced latency, never crashes, etc. I don't install anything. Just plug any audio interface in and go. It's all part of the deal.

we're getting off topic but the ability to upgrade individual components so easily with PCs is their 'killer app'. sure at some point the motherboard itself becomes the gating factor but by upgrading video cards, hard drives, etc. you can get alot of mileage out of older hardware.

True. Even though Windows PCs and Macs cant keep the higher end Intel CPUs from thermal throttling

Macbooks and Windows laptops (in the similar price range as macbooks) are outstanding machines and will last a long time

Pretty much. I got a cheap Acer laptop (with a Ryzen 3) for somebody in my family and I'm honestly pretty impressed with it.

really any machine with an SSD these days is going to be snappy. So nice not having to deal with spinning disks anymore

Ended up dropping in 16gb of ram and a 500 Samsung ssd, then used a cradle to put the wiped originally 750 hdd where the cd Drive was, also updated to Catalina. Seems to run it well but was a bitch to save everything and start all over.

Migration assistant kept failing. I think my computer was more screwed up than I thought. It’s been a mess.

Bought a dell computer about 4 years ago for my son to play around on and do school work. It’s so slow it just sits collecting dust. We’ve reboot it multiple times thinking there must be a virus. It’s just crap.
