So, I decided to purchase a PW manager and went with 1Password. Working on it for myself before my wife. Purchased the family plan.

I got it to download all my chrome PWs easy enough. But I'm struggling adding ones that aren't already in Chrome.

1. Do you have to have 1Passwod open and logged into for it to work? Everytime I go to log into a site already in there, if I go to a website login, it doesn't show me 1Password to use unless I'm already logged into 1Password. Is that how it works?
Same on Android phone. 2) Or are you supposed to go to the vault to click the site from there and it should launch the website or app?
3) Can you have it update the password to a stronger one via the app? How does it change a password to a stronger password?

Going to try to find some videos.

I don’t know about Android but on my iPhone It makes me login like every 15 days or so. When I get to a login page a button pops up for me to access passwords which pulls up my info from 1Password and logs in for me.

On the computer my 1Password is set to lock out like every 15 minutes. It will then require me to put my main password in. Pretty sure this can be changed but I have my laptop available to my kids and all so I keep the shorter time frame. You can log out manually as well. It does need to be logged in on the computer to work and on mine set up on chrome, there is a 1Password button in my login fields that I click to auto pull up the login and password.

It’s awesome and I wish I would have set it up sooner.

One thing to do on the iPhone is to make sure it is turned on as the app under Settings/General/AutoFill & Passwords.

ETA: on Chrome on a laptop there is also a 1Password extension to add to Chrome.

Yes, passwords can be as easy or as complex as you set the parameters for it.

I use the 1PW browser extension, mostly because I prefer viewing websites from my MacBook, and anything that I do from the browser, phone, or iPad is automatically synced and updated between the devices.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm gonna have to get to some tutorial videos. My app doesn't look like the app in some of the videos, and I'm sure there are settings changes I need to make.

I think this is how I need to proceed, get everything setup from my computer and let it sync to my phone. I'm a big screen person now.

This is my preferred method. Once completed, minor changes and adjustments can be done from your phone and tablet.

This is driving me crazy.

I have my login to Amex in my logins and it works on the website on my phone.
How do I get the Amex app to log in via 1password? I have auto fill on, and am logged into the 1password app, but it's not prompting me to save the app login.

I'm figuring it out. Not as intuitive as I hoped, but it seems it's way easier to set everything up on the web browser, then login to 1password in the app, and log out and back into apps and let 1password "add" the app location to the profile. At least that seems to be what is working for me so far.

Could be a browser issue? Which browser are you using? I use Opera on my iPhone and Edge on MacBook (about to install Opera as well).

I don't think so, I use Chrome on both. The issue is probably me struggling to understand how to get the apps working.

I would like to change some of my passwords, so I have to figure that out next.

I can't express how much burning hate I have for companies that force me to create a login on mobile rather than PC.

OP, it still can be browser issues. Chrome/Chromium gets updated about every two weeks, and about every 90 days or so, one of those changes starts f'ing up extensions. For instance, after an update about three weeks ago, Bitwarden (my pw manager) simply locks up when I click on the vault. It will fill the pw fine if I click on the form in the webpage 95% of the time, but it's just inexplicably broken, and it wasn't a month ago.

Yep, I was so frustrated trying to do this on my phone, I'm now doing it all on computer, and figuring out how to add the phone app to the login options. This could be easier for sure.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I am convinced that 1password must have a Livy Dunne sized marketing budget. That program gets so much press and I think it’s an abomination. Like…awful.

I would download the trial for Roboform tbh. it’s never mentioned along with Dashlane and 1pass but it’s 20x better IMHO. sux on a macbook in safari. chrome/brave work great.

Bumping this for another question.

I'm finally used to it, and it's working overall well for me, with one exception. It works fine on websites, with me logged into the 1password app on Windows.
But on my phone, I'm having a hard time figuring out how to get it to work with phone apps? For example, I have a bank account I access online, which works fine with the website, but I cant' figure out how to get 1password to work with it on the phone. It doesn't seems to recognize that Im on the app, and when I try to add it, it creates a new login instead of letting me add it to the existing login as an additional website.
Is there a trick to that? It seems banking sites might redirect you to the website to log in and then back to the app after login, could that be part of the issue?
I was thinking you could have one login with website and app, but I'm having a hard time getting the apps added.

Sometimes I have to open my banking app, then open 1password, then go back to the banking app and the option to fill-in appears above the keyboard.
