We were also a seeded Pot 1 team, so we missed all the big fish.

With that said, Turkey throttled the frick out of our Gold Cup squad last summer.

Opening games of Group E are Germany/Curacao and Ivory Coast/Ecuador in either Philadelphia or Houston

Would love to see Germany but I have a feeling they put Ecuador in Houston because they think they're Mexican

Tons of Germans in Central Texas, would love to see them play

For those that do not know, we've played our entire group already in friendlies over the course of the last 6 months.

Jun 7: USA 1 - 2 Turkey (assuming it's Turkey, of course)
Oct 14: USA 2 - 1 Australia (they really came hard after Pulisic)
Nov 15: USA 2 - 1 Paraguay

Mate you cant seriously root for that German team come on.

Germany coasted to a World Cup victory as recently as 2014 with a truly German side. This ain't that.

If all goes chalk (which it won't), the winner of Group D (USA) would face the winner of Group G (Belgium) in the Round of 16.

I thought Spain was in our quarterfinal rnd and France in semi? Can't have both Spain and Argentina in the same side of the bracket. Did I misread it?

Part of me hates the expansion of the WC, or any major tournament in any sport really, because I think it waters it down. With that said, this might be the first time ever we’re favored to win our group.

The expanded knockout makes for some unbalanced round of 16 matches

Half the group winners get group winners in the round of 16 and the other half get runners up in the round of 16. Doesn't seem like a fair competitive balance.

That and the group stage is largely meaningless considering more teams advance than get eliminated.

This format is so damn convoluted my thought is just get through the group and go from there. Who we get matched with is who we get matched with.

Which means we won't and will be an even bigger embarrassment.

Poch is not for naming us group winners without playing a game.

The dates are already known. You can go to the Wikipedia world cup page for that.

I was able to scoop up some hotel rooms in Houston and Dallas using that before the hotels booked out/or shut it off. Of course ended up with no real good matchups for the dates I could realistically do but oh well. I still have one knockout round reservation so we'll see.

Hyatt Places going for $1,000 a night I got for 6,000 points a night

They'll probably try to frick me on it.
