by definition, it's not really called a kit. a kit would be everything that you'd use to play. which makes sense i think. i don't use it, though.

Kit is everything, shirt, shorts, socks, shin guards and boots/cleats.

Uniform would be just the shirt, shorts and socks.
That is sometimes called a strip, too. Although strip is a bit ambiguous, because it refers to the basic design....like that Barca, basic strip is the blaugrana shirt with the red shorts and whatever color of socks, that remains MOSTLY unchanged year to year.

The brits also call your running gear (shoes, shorts, shirt) a kit.

Regardless, why does this thread not show the "kit"??
I think people use the word "kit" too loosely on this board.

And sneakers are called trainers.
A mouth piece is called a gum shield.
Your cleats are called boots.
Practice is called a training session or just training. Imagine if AI were in Ingerland...

To an extent (to back up my verbiage) it does show the kit, as it shows the shorts and warm-up jacket.

Probably for the same reason a team is called a "side".

A side is the team on the field. You have an entire club that is comprised of multiple sides (first side, second side, third side, etc). Each side is starters plus subs, and for some clubs, some members of the second side are subs for the first side, etc.
This harkens back to pre professional days, and the term is still used in other codes of football.

Dude a kit can be anything. That right there is a sewing kit, just like there is an emergency kit, hair kit etc.

....the same reason why they call the playing surface a "pitch".
It's because that's what it's called.

Don't forget the squad...which is the entire team from which the side and substitutes are chosen. The "Head Coach" is called the manager over there because he has control over ALL on-field activities and the direction of the club, including reserves and youth policy. But he coaches the first team or senior side during their games, too.

To the genius who started this thread, why do humans call anything what they do? A "jersey" could just as well be a "neup". Geeez. Language 101 dude. Get a clue.

Isn't the jersey part of a kit?
Posted on 7/2/10 at 11:27 am to GeauxColonels
Yes, Colonel, yes it is.
