If think this is a good point.

I think it is hard due to USMNT being the better team currently. But I can see some guys choosing Mexico if it allows a clearer path to more playing time.

Meaning Mexico will get sloppy seconds. And like it.

Julian Araujo 100% chose Mexico because he saw that he wasn't ever going to be starting at RB with Dest having that spot locked down. Same goes with David Ochoa, who at the time, saw that he was 4th in the pecking order behind Turner, Steffen and Horvath while Mexico had a GK abyss behind an aging Memo. David Ochoa, btw, is no longer playing professionally, crazy fall from grace for him.

On the flip side, I think Alex Zendejas made a huge mistake choosing USMNT over Mexico. He's probably not good enough for either, but likely had a better chance of featuring long term for Mexico.

it never ceases to amaze me how countries with a fraction of that population are factories for producing A+ talent.

Croatia and Uruguay each have about 3.5 million people....1/2 that are male, so from about a pool of 1.5 million people they have built two of the most competitive sides on the planet.

But those areas probably have more passion for soccer than anywhere else…

I think it’s CONCACAF… US, Mex, and Canada need more matches against the best in the world in Europe and South America. They need the risk of not making a World Cup to reach their potential. Right now it’s too easy

The rest of CONCACAF isn’t expected to and isn’t capable of competing at that level, and US, Mex, and Canada playing them is a waste of time

Until this thread made me revisit the issue, I had no idea how prevalent the corruption and pay for play was in Mexican soccer. Also had no idea how connected the youth soccer setup was. You're never going to do well producing or developing elite talent with that kind of system.

I wish fifa would allow US/MEX/CAN to join COMNEBOL so they can match up against countries their own size. It makes no sense for those 3 countries to be playing against Caribbean nations….it just brings them down to that level.

The GOAT has (or Had) elite agility, quickness, and lower body strength/balance. But a team of Messi’s aren’t going to win a World Cup. You typically need beast central defenders and a quality DM to go with your smaller, quicker players. See Edson Alvarez being Mexico’s top player at the moment. The problem is these type of players are few and far between in Mexico. Add that to the perviously mentioned fact they aren’t sending their best players to Europe and that’s why they are currently stuck outside the top 15 teams in the world.
