Honestly dude, name a sport that in general requires LESS athleticism than baseball? I'm not talking about specialized positions in sports, but just the general athletic ability required. If you consider golf a sport I guess there's your answer, but to me that's a game.

by making a completely arbitrary statement and then shifting your argument around when you get called on it?

Do you all need to demean another sport (baseball and tennis) to make your point here?

Why do you think I'm demeaning another sport?
I love college baseball and I like tennis.

No one is demeaning any sport. DR RC just can't handle the slightest criticisms (if you could call them that) about baseball. Wait, isn't that what most MSB posters say about the SB and soccer?

Can you define what you think athleticism even is?

I like that you said I can't use a specialized position yet that is exactly what you just did when dumping on baseball.

Both soccer and basketball blow baseball away in terms of athleticism.

Athleticism is a multi-dimensional concept. In other words, there are different types of athleticism.

I would consider throwing an athletic feat. I would consider someone who is good at throwing to be "athletic."

Baseball players have world class arms, almost without exception. That's something they do better than just about any other type of athlete in the world, on average.

Strength is another form of athleticism. I don't think anyone would suggest an Olympic weightlifter, for example, is un-athletic.

Could this weightlifter keep up with pro soccer players for 90 mins? No. Could he leap like pro basketball players? No.

That doesn't mean he isn't athletic.

Acceleration, speed, vertical leap, agility, balance, strength, conditioning. The ability to sustain those over the course of a game.

No I didn't. Learn to read. Sure Pitcher, 1B and DH require the least athleticism on the field, but that's not to say you need to be an outstanding athlete to succeed at any other position (of course it helps). SS and CF require the most athleticism easily. On average, baseball requires less athletic ability than does football, basketball, hockey or soccer.

Just let it be. If you don't get upset, the "soccer is gay" jokes will disappear. In fact, they already are. It was funny in the 80s and 90s and now it's just an old go to for people who are not funny. When people say it now, others just roll their eyes.

But, my honest assessment is this. Once America continues to get better people will accept it more. Americans hate losing and it's easier to just make fun of the sport than accept that we are not as good as other countries. We prefer to just say, "who cares" rather than admit defeat. It's just the way it goes.

Duckie is on point.

You actually did. You said baseball doesn't require the least amount of athleticism out of all major sports. So what, IYO, requires the least amount of athleticism?

Apparently after I said baseball requires the least athleticism of any sport I've played.

I see your reasoning, but that's just one example. When I think of baseball athletes I think what impresses me the most is hand eye coordination, which I would consider a very athletic attribute. I agree that you don't need to be a full around athlete to be athletic, but the types and amount of athletic skills utilized in baseball is less than most other sports.

Of course they are required. They're just not as important in baseball as they are in other sports.

Cause they can't stand the fact that the US isn't number 1 in something. If you can't beat them, bash and belittle them and keep telling yourself it's meaningless.
