This is what I tell myself, they're our only 2 RB's that can play with the big boys...
Probably but as far as a World Cup goes it's all about matchups. It's easy to forget that Bornstein was serviceable in the 2010 World Cup and that was mainly because he didn't have to go up against any legit right sided winger types.
We certainly have better 3rd, 4th, 5th options there than we do at left back.

We can get lucky and get by with only serviceable players, but I'd rather we have full-backs that can support in attack, as that is an absolute must have in this day and age. The attacking qualities of a full-back are almost as important as the defensive qualities, as a good full back can put pressure on opposing wingers.

We won't have that. No team does. No doubt we are at our deepest ever, and we can deal with injury better than ever. But teams will always try to expose who they see as the weak link, even if we don't see it. Despite Beasley's decent play recently, I'd imagine teams would like to target him due to his relative inexperience at LB.

Well yeah, I'm just looking at worst-case scenarios. In that case we could probably get by (at least in the group - non-group of death) with a Parkhurst (or Evans) at RB.
Right back is interesting. We haven't seen Dolo or Chandler for a while now.

And yes I'm probably contradicting myself by talking about how matchups matter and then saying we could get by in the group with a Parkhurst or Evans.
Just that they're not that bad and if everything bad happened I wouldn't feel terrible about having them there if it went that way.
Now look at left back and I'm more worried if something happens to Johnson and Beasley.

How much longer is Dolo out for?
Posted on 7/28/13 at 10:07 pm to Crede15
I wouldn't mind Evans, honestly. I thought he played really well at RB. Parkhurst was serviceable. But it would be a disappointment given that we've had Dolo for the last couple of cycles, where he's been rather good, and have had some glimpses of Chandler, who looks like a real player.
We've always seemed to have some decent RB's for the first team. At least as far as I can remember.

I thought he just wanted to take the summer off?

I have no idea, there has been no news about him at all since the knee surgery.

I think Klinsmann's quote about Brek after the game sums Brek up: "You see a guy like Brek, unpredictable for himself, and unpredictable for the opponent."
Posted on 7/28/13 at 10:42 pm to 225bred
Yet Brek is one of the most dangerous players we have. He has proven himself as a late game attacking substitute.
All of y'all hating on Goodson are ridiculous. He is clearly the #3 CB.
Wondolowski has nothing to add to main squad. Torres is done and Bedoya did nothing to earn more playing time.

Goodson ball watches like a 13 year old, it's the one thing keeping him from reaching his potential.

I still think he is our third best defender. Right now I would start Besler and Cameron

Is there a gif yet of Jurgy dropping down after EJ's miss?

I thought he did a lot better on this during the Gold Cup than usual. He had two moments in this game that could have been problems, but that less than usual.
He is also an asset on offense, coming up with a few goals this GC.
I think Mix was the guy that really came out of nowhere for me. Really wish he would get picked up by a bigger league with some definite playing time. Would love to see him develop more. Has potential to take Jones role when Jones can no longer go (long balls, length, high work rate, challenging), but he also seems a bit more incisive and able to get his own shot off.

I agree, I think he has a very good skillset and can be a real player for us in the years going forward.

Bedoya, Mix, Corona, Goodson, and Donovan did the best, IMO. Torres also played well, but not as well as the above.
I'm really glad to see Bedoya play well. I got shite on for supporting this guy in the past. I saw how he performed in the 2011 GC and was impressed with him then. It's a shame he hasn't had a decent club situation since then, but I'm hoping his move to Holland helps. I think he offers us something that others in the pool do not. What that is, I'm not so sure... but it's something.
Wondo and EJ are in the next tier.
Rimando proved he is our clear #3. Beckerman showed he is at least solid against lower opponents.

I didn't even notice on TV the black guy in JK's drop-down Gif. And the 2 ladies just below appreciate soccer! Good to see.

That would be former MLS on ESPN sideline reporter Allen Hopkins. He is hosting all of the US Soccer youtube videos now and he still has no idea how fluidly speak when on camera.
