Even when he's paired with Jones, Bradley usually drops the deepest of any of our central midfielders. When we build out of the back it's usually Bradley dropping deep and getting the ball from one of the center backs. He's the most reliable guy we have as far as dropping deep, setting things up, dictating tempo, not losing the ball in bad positions, etc.

So with the way we're set up I'm not sure if bringing in a more defensive minded midfielder is going to free him up to play a more attacking role, because if we have a deep-lying playmaker type it's Bradley. So with whoever is paired with Bradley it's going to be a matter of him dropping deep to start attacks, but getting forward at times, and then having that guy cover for him, and vice-versa. It might give him a bit more freedom, but even when Cameron was in on Friday he was at times playing farther forward than Bradley.

I'd probably go with Klejstan. That being said I didn't think he was especially good versus Belgium, and I was actually pretty surprised at how decent Cameron looked against Jamaica. I do think when he's playing well Klejstan is a bit better option.

I suspect it will be Eddie on the right and I'm ok with that, of the options we have.

if we put GAM on the wing that will leave us with only Boyd as a sub for Jozy.

I'm aware of all of this. That's why I said if GC does start alongside Bradley then he needs to stay put as a holding mid only and not go forward like he was against Jamaica, because I feel like Klejstan would be a better fit in that type of role.

I wasn't really disagreeing, you were just the last person who had posted.

It's just something I've been thinking about. Cause Bradley looked really good at times when Zeman was playing him as an out and out box to box midfielder with a deeper lying playmaker behind him, but I'm not sure we can really do that since he's our best option for dropping deep and starting things up. He just has to pick and choose his moments to go forward and have the other guy cover for him.

As for EJ on the right, we could always bring in somebody for him and move him up top if he wants to sub Jozy out. It's not ideal, but I would be a bit surprised if he went with Corono. It just doesn't seem like he really trusts him.

So is everyone else fine with Beasley at LB and Fabian Johnson on the wing?

Cameron can play the "water carrier" role while Bradley still dictates play. What would change is Dempsey's positioning, as he might have to come deeper to collect the ball. Bradley would have to move horizontally in order not to be marked out of the game, and he will have to be timely with his forward runs, but I thought Cameron and Bradley combined rather well in terms of passing. The important thing is that we can't have Dempsey coming too deep to collect the ball, and create a lot of space between he and Altidore. Thus the impetus is on Bradley not to be marked out of the game while still being able to dictate play. Against quality opposition I would say that approach would be dangerous, but I hope we would be able to impose our will on Panama.

It seems most people want the reverse to happen. This thread is about Zusi and jones' positions though so there isn't much talk about the left side of he field.

But the consensus is that FJ is much better defensively and DMB is better suited at LM.

I just don't get why Klinsmann is switching up the left side. I thought Fabian Johnson looked good in his previous appearancs at left back.

2 yellow cards. He got a yellow card in a game before, and they carry over and he got another vs Jamaica

Damn. Must've missed that. He and Jozy were really starting to form a pretty good understanding too on crosses and getting on the end of them. Good thing it's only one game and it shouldn't matter because it's Panama.

I really wish Jurgen would stop banging his head against the wall with this Donovan thing. It's pretty clear he's the perfect like for like replacement to come in and slot right into the team.

it will matter vs Panama. CONCACAF is unpredictable.

We are going to see what he has in the gold cup.

FJ plays more LM at Hoffenheim and says its his more natural position. Be that as it may, he is better suited at LB for us like it or not.

Possibly the dumbest rule in soccer.

This is by no means final. I expect several guys to be removed and others to be added.

I'd be shocked to see Beasley, Besler, Omar, and Gomez there.

Goalkeepers: Tally Hall (Houston Dynamo), Bill Hamid (DC United), Sean Johnson (Chicago Fire), Nick Rimando (Real Salt Lake)

Defenders: Corey Ashe (Houston Dynamo), DaMarcus Beasley (Puebla), Tony Beltran (Real Salt Lake), Matt Besler (Sporting KC), Carlos Bocanegra (Racing Santander), Edgar Castillo (Tijuana), Omar Gonzalez (LA Galaxy), Clarence Goodson (Brondby), Oguchi Onyewu (Malaga), Michael Orozco (Puebla), Michael Parkhurst (Ausburg)

Midfielders: Kyle Beckerman (Real Salt Lake), Alejandro Bedoya (Heisingborgs), Joe Corona (Tijuana), Brad Davis (Houston Dynamo), Mix Diskerud (Rosenborg), Landon Donovan (LA Galaxy), Brad Evans (Seattle Sounders), Benny Feilhaber (Sporting KC), Josh Gatt (Molde), Stuart Holden (Bolton), Brek Shea (Stoke City), Jose Torres (Tigres), Graham Zusi (Sporting KC)

Forwards: Will Bruin (Houston Dynamo), Herculez Gomez (Santos), Alan Gordon (San Jose Earthquakes), Eddie Johnson (Seattle Sounders), Jack McInerney (Philadelphia Union), Chris Wondolowski (San Jose Earthquakes), Bobby Wood (1860 Munich)

Thanks Keys!

Look forward to seeing some of the next guys up play.

Likelihood that Hamid makes the cut? If he gets the call then a HS friend has a better chance of seeing PT for DCU.

I figure either Johnson or Hamid will start. Gold Cup has to be about youth development for the most part, and Rimando is never going to feature for the USMNT.

I think I mentioned this in another thread, but Eddie Johnson is almost definitely going to start since this game is in Seattle. Zusi seemed to get quite a boost from playing in Kansas city and I expect a similar occurrence for GAM.

Kind of different since Zusi was in his normal position. Although Johnson wouldn't be completely out of place, I wouldn't put him in just cause he's playing in front of his home crowd if there is someone who is better suited to play. I would rather see Corona since he is a true winger but JK does often sub Johnson for Zusi in games so he's a very likely candidate.

Lolwut?

We aren't talking about some abstract 19 year old playing in the Norwegian fourth division.

If you (not you, specifically) are unsure of want Landon Donovan brings to the game, I don't know what to tell you.

Donovan is clearly the first choice at RM, ahead of Zusi, and certainly miles ahead of whatever out of position player Klinsmann will try to shoehorn into that role tonight.
