And why was it Darlington Nagbe?

Let's talk about the man from Liberia. He was a constant threat going forward, can take a man on at pace and beat him, is great in possession, and did almost all of the set up work on one of our goals last night. Nagbe needs to be more selfish and needs to improve his finishing, but damn we've been missing players like him in our pool for a long time now. I'm very surprised no European team has put in a decent offer for him.

Honorable mention goes to Villafana.

I'd go with Villafana just because Jurgen never even considered him when it was a position of serious need.

It's pretty inexcusable to be honest.

We should lay out all of the nominees:

Darlington Nagbe, MF, Portland Timbers FC, (Monrovia, Liberia)

Jorge Villafaña, DF, Santos Laguna, (Anaheim. CA)

Sebastian Lleget, MF, Los Angeles Galaxy, (San Francisco, CA)

Landon Donovan, FW, Los Angeles Galaxy, (A Random Village, Cambodia)

I guess snubbing the best player in our country's history should be mentioned, even if he was briefly a Cambodian nomad

I am going to go with the guy who caused a massive chasm on this board for months.

I agree. Not including Nagbe and continuing to put old washed up players like Zusi, Beckerdreads, and Wondo on the roster was beyond dumb.

And LD gets a nod too for at least the 2014 World Cup. Today, he's still better than the people who started in his place during that world cup.

To be fair, Bruce has called up 2 of those 3 for World Cup Qualifiers.

I was rarely bothered by him calling up Beckerman to be honest. But yeah it's probably Nagbe.

For me the Villafana snub was more infuriating because it was such an obvious move and he could have helped out big time in a position of great need. Instead we kept trotting out 35 year-old DaMarcus Beasley and hoped for the best.

Nagbe should also have been called up immediately, but with him I can at least understand how JK might not have rated him in the midfield. He was wrong, but I can at least see some rationale there. Our midfield pool is way deeper than our left back pool.

Glad to have them both in the team now. Hope Lletget can heal quickly too.

His line-up against Argentina last summer was infuriating.

He looked at the team and thought Zusi, Beckerman, and Wondo were more worthwhile players than Pulisic and Nagbe.

I was ok with how Jurgen handled Pulisic in the Copa. He was 17 and still finding his place at Dortmund and the USMNT. A reserve bench role was the right call, I think.

But yeah, not giving Nagbe a bigger role that tournament and then casting him aside afterwards was the height of stupidity.

It was defensible when we had Bedoya, Wood, and Jermaine Jones as viable options. But they were all suspended for the Argentina game. Zusi (and especially Beckerman and Wondo) had no business even being called up, much less starting against Argentina.

I don't think it's Nagbe. He did bring him into the team and he got several games. Just not starting minutes.

Villafana is a good option, but it's not like Villafana has been amazing. Just satisfactory imo.

Brad Davis and Wondo over Cakes and Boyd in 14

Boyd was the only backup we had for Jozy and Davis had no business playing at the international level, much less the WC.
