More than likely English, but many players are multi-lingual. Lukaku, for example, is fluent in a bunch of languages. French and Spanish are probably often used as well.

I imagine English unless their language is the same as one of the teams, then they probably use that. I always wonder how the players complain to the refs. Like if most of them know English or if they all go yelling at the refs in Polish or Russian or something

In the Senegal Colombia coin toss you could hear the ref speaking English.

I could be wrong, but I think FIFA refs have to speak English. At least at the World Cup level.

Was talking about this earlier, it can't always be English.

Players and coaches use hand signals. Player interviews use translators, coaches use translators.

Think about Arsenal. Arsene is fluent in like 14 languages or some shite. Emry is still trying to learn English.

It's English. If the crew is European, or Latin American, top players will address them in their mother tongue (provided of course they're not Flemish, Dutch, German speakers).

Just cuz you need translator for interview, doesn't mean you cant speak casual english.

Also, first google search.

English and French are the official languages of FIFA. During matches they basically speak English. Every referee has the obligation to speak English and one more language, usually their native language, but some of them speak three languages. Portuguese and Spanish a pretty useful.

How was I wrong? They don't just speak English. Some players, not refs, don't speak English.

You just posted that French was an official language and named two others.

English and French are the official languages of FIFA. All officials must be fluent in English.

I wondered this myself.

I also wonder how do the Japanese, koreans, Egyptians, etc complain to the refs.

I’m guessing they just speak their native language and the ref assumes the player is talking shite.

At the World Cup level, I am sure every team has at least 2-3 guys who speak decent English.

I know Korea's captain speaks perfect english. And Egypt has quite a few players playing in English speaking countries. Salah speaks really good english. Most teams have players that play in England.
