Actually, there's a pretty big difference.
Honduras has made the last two World Cups, Cuba has never even made the Hex and Belize has never even made it to the third round.

Yea and it was in the gold cup when that years edition was pointless and our B/Cish squad other than Landon.

Also why Rimando? I know it's the third keeper so they never play but I would rather get a guy like Hamid acclimated to the process

Does he have a spot in Russia solely based on that?

I'm pretty surprised Chandler didn't get called at all. No one, including Arena, can think Zusi is a better option than him.

I agree. what is Aaron Johanson's status moving forward with the USMNT? I know he isn't going to get regular mins at Bremen apparently.

I mean yeah Honduras have qualified for the Hex more than Belize and Cuba, but in terms of overall relative quality, Honduras is closer to those teams than they are to the US and Mexico. You could replace that 4th CONCACAF team with anyone, and nobody would notice. Other than getting steamrolled just about every game in the last two World Cups, Honduras hasn't made an impact. Hopefully Canada gets their act together soon.
And yeah, Zardes has been awful, and the Galaxy team is terrible. They can't do anything right. Would be embarrassing for the league's most famous team to finish bottom of the table, but it could very well happen,

I wouldn't be opposed to it, unless we really feel like we need Horvath to get the World Cup traveling experience since he could possibly beat out Guzan for 2022.

If Timmy Chandler doesn't get called up here, you have to think that's the end of his national team career. I know we've said that for a while, but he's not getting younger.
It always seemed to me like he didn't give a shite about playing for us.

You are obscenely disregarding how pathetic Cuba and Belize are as soccer programs.

Well, that's just false because in 2010 CONCACAF only got 3 teams in and Honduras was one of them (Costa Rica lost the intercontinental playoff)
Just take the L on this one and go home.

Its pretty telling when a US player, in a position of need, is getting regular mins in a top league and no one gives a shite when hes not called up.

Costa Rica, Mexico, and the US have all won games and made the knockout round in at least one of the last two World Cups.
What has Honduras done? Nothing, aside from injuring a ton of players. They are a terrible representative of our region.
Cuba and Belize are awful, but Honduras isn't much better. They are just the 4th best team (and arguably Panama has passed them) by default. We should never lose to any of those teams. Hell, Honduras didn't score a single goal in the Gold Cup. I hope we put the final nail in their coffin on Tuesday.

No, but right now we just need to focus on winning these 2 games.

Dude, let it go, you said something stupid initially, just own it and quit doubling down on the stupid like you're SlowEasy.

Alex Bono for Toronto is a GK to keep a eye on for the future. He's had a breakout season. Big part of why they're so good. Maybe he'll be invited to winter camp next year. One of the MLS keeper crew eventually has to step up.

I think you're misunderstanding the point I'm trying to make. They were slightly better than Costa Rica back in 2010, but Costa Rica did more in 2014 than Honduras has ever done in the World Cup. You could have placed Panama or Jamaica in their spot the last two tournaments, and nothing would have changed. They haven't made an impact like the top 3.
They haven't won once in 9 World Cup games. Cuba made the quarterfinals in their one trip back in 1938. The average game between Honduras and Belize or Cuba is more competitive than Honduras against us or Mexico. In fact, they only beat Belize 1-0 earlier this year.

Regardless, we really should expect 6 points from these two games. Four would be frustrating, and losing one of them would be unacceptable. I know playing in the Honduras heat will be tough, but we're still a far superior team to them. No excuses.

Cuba has scored 7 goals in their last 15 games. 3 in a win vs Dominican Rep, 1 in a draw vs. Curacao, 1 in a win vs Guatemala, 2 in a win vs Bermuda. They have 3 wins (Dom Rep, Guatemala, Bermuda), 2 draws (Curacao x2), 10 losses (Jamaica, Mexico, T&T, USA x2, Nicaragua x2, Honduras, Panama, French Guiana). They only have 3 players that play outside of Cuba, and 2 of those play in the Dominican Republic.
Honduras has 4 wins (Panama, Belize, Nicaragua, French Guiana forfeit), 5 draws (Costa Rica x2, El Salvador, Panama, Canada), 6 losses (Jamaica, Ecuador, USA, Mexico x2, and Costa Rica) over their last 15 games.
That looks to be a sizable gap.

quote:Completely meaningless.
Cuba made the quarterfinals in their one trip back in 1938.
Cuba only qualified because literally every other team withdrew. Cuba qualified without playing a single game.
