I don't see how Jozy and Steffen aren't starting. Morris, Boyd, and Weah are all competing for the RW spot, but I agree Morris is too hot right now to not be the favorite. All other 8 positions look right.

Steffen hasn't played a game in 2020 and Turner is up for GK of the year in MLS. Even peak Steffen was no where close to Howard/Friedel/Keller levels. The position is up for grabs.

Has Turner ever even been on the USMNT roster?

Pretty sure he's been in the last 2 camps.

He’s fallen off enough to not be in Starting XI?

If we're just talking the RB spot, Yedlin is a worse RB than Dest, Cannon, and Tyler Adams. Obviously you want Adams playing in midfield and Dest can play on the left. But Yedlin hasn't really improved his game much in a couple years, it seems.

But won't two of those guys be starting elsewhere? In the OP's link, and virtually every projection, Dest is pencilled in as the left back, even though he plays on the right at Ajax. And Adams is almost certainly the DM. So that leaves Cannon. I guess Antonee Robinson could play LB, but it seems Dest is the front runner there, which eliminates a lot of Yedlin's competition on the right.

Cannon still likely gets the start, but Yedlin started in the League of Nations, so the staff clearly favors him still, and while he is a defensive liability, he does provide speed up the sideline and some international experience, which this team will lack. Yedlin is probably still in the mix until Cannon clearly passes him up. If I'm making my own lineup, Yedlin doesn't start, but if I'm making a prediction what the staff WILL DO... I think he does. At least one game.

I think a lot has happened since the Nations League matches. Yedlin has gone from starting at Newcastle to not even making the bench, and is on the verge of moving to MLS or Turkey. Cannon has moved from Dallas to become Boavista's most expensive transfer on what will likely be a short stop before moving to France.

Yedlin and Cannon are on opposite trajectories.

If there's a game today, I think they go with the hot hand, which would be Dest or Cannon.

Sure, but I don't think a guy totally falls out of favor with his national team because he's had a falling out with his club. I like Cannon, too, but people have been trying to bench Yedlin for years, and it still hasn't happened yet. I think the coaches like him more than the fans do.

Though I do also like the idea of Antonee Robinson locking down the left back position, allowing Dest to play his natural position on the right. But he's riding the bench since signing with Fulham after being the starter all last season for Wigan. But that's mainly because I want some Fulhamerica action.

Looks like Yedlin is playing left back in the cup game today

The fact that we have two viable LB's now is a huge improvement over the last 5-6 years.

I think I prefer Dest at LB and Cannon at RB, but Robinson and Yedlin are still solid backups (especially if Yedlin finds his way to a place with consistent playing time).

If I'm playing a game tomorrow, Johansson is my starting #9. He's been on fire the past two months in Sweden and we need goals.

How far behind are some of these FC Dallas guys from Starting XI?
Like Ferreira and Pomykal?

Pomykal went to the Altidore School of Perpetual Injury.

Servania is further away than Ferreira and Pepi.

To be fair none of these guys reached their “peak” levels until they hit 30.

Steffen is better at 25 than what those guys were at that age.
