re: USMNT Qualifying Window Thoughts
Do what? The dude plays for barcelona and not just riding the pine.

You cant leave that quality at home and he doesnt really get rattled like some of the others because he's played in some of the biggest games with the worlds biggest stars.

He 10000000% got rattled in El Salvador.

Same with Brooks in Honduras. I think those two guys definitely aren't used to playing in third world countries on shite field with barbed wire and police in riot gear between them and the fans.

I'm totally fine going forward with playing Cannon or Yedlin at RB and McKenzie or Zimmerman at LCB in shithole countries.

If/When we get to Qatar in those nice stadiums with manicured grass built by slaves, Brooks and Dest will play every minute, because they are our best options at those positions in games like that.

1. As a fan, the 3 game windows are a lot of fun as it’s a pretty good simulation of a tournament group stage.

Totally agree. And a great point about how its good practice for the roster management of the World Cup group stage.

2. I think Tyler Adams needs to be the US captain.

Yup. He played the full 270 and didn't miss a beat. I don't ge tthe feeling Pulisic wants to be the captain, though he is our undisputed best player. Allowing him to siply have the burden of beng the great US hope and not also a leader of men might be best for everyone. Also, Adams earned the honor. He's our most indispensible player.

3. As much as I love a team with pulisic and Reyna as attacking wingers, I think one of these two needs to play centrally in the midfield for the USMNT.

A lot of the problems in the first half against Honduras were caused by Greg's nearly insane dedication to building pressure from the outside, even to the point of pushing clear outside players to the middle. He corrected the error, and if I squint, I can see the concept behind it, but... stop it. Reyna as a winger isn't gonna be an issue for a while, but this team is at its best when it has that central spine of Brooks to Adams to McKennie to Pulisic. This isn't rocket science.

4. The next window of games must produce 7 points. Anything short of 7 and the US will be looking at the rest of qualifying happening during the mls off-season and needing points from the two Mexico games.

Win at home, draw on the road. Though they did it the wrong way in the opening frame, that formula netted 5 points. You're right, now it needs to yield 7, particularly looking at the matchups. I can live with 6.

5. A. Robinson and Ream played well. Maybe the Championship really is the GOAT league for preparing people for concacaf away games.

Promote Miazga. That dude is built for the knife fights of CONCACAF. I can't believe how well Ream played. But we don't need the most skilled team, we need a little bit of edge to put around our skill. Play in bard wire, bring in the barbed wire guys.

He had a bad game and took to many chances. I dont really remember him getting rattled though. Maybe I'll rewatch the game. Could have beer brain.

Regardless, you cant leave your best players at home. Cant do it. We dont have that luxury.

Best players need to go play so we actually qualify.

I never thought I'd say "Yedlin's willing defense is really a better fit", but here we are.

If Miazga starts getting regular minutes I think we’ll see him at some point in qualifying. He has the sharp elbows that travel well in concacaf.

Though hard to see anyone starting at RCB at the moment other than miles Robinson. Miles really has looked tremendous for the USMNT this summer and fall. I’m pretty encouraged with the overall state of the CBs at the moment.

Ya, I like miazga, but centerback is a logjam right now. Miles looks like a stud..

I would take, in no particular order, Zimmerman, McKenzie, Richards, healthy Long, CCV and even Ream over him.

Big if true

My concern about Miazga is he’s prone to diving in and other errors of judgment.

To his credit, Ream was very good against El Salvador. I want him nowhere near the 23 on the plane for Qatar, but he still has a semi-valuable role this qualifying cycle as both a veteran leader (he is basically acting as another assistant coach when he's on the bench) and a decent depth option at LCB during these three-match windows.

CCV

He had a solid game this weekend. He just just needs to get consistent minutes and keep playing at a solid level when doing it. He tends to fade for periods then has a stretch where you forget about him.

Only a handful of players actually knew what it was like. The rest of the players have really only played in the US or Europe. It’ll definitely take some getting used to.

Let’s not forget how awful Ream looked against Mexico though.

Again, not saying he is our best LCB, but he has a role on this team.

Also, a shite ton of players had bad games last week.
