US Players - Stock

Tough ending ot the World Cup for USMNT. Not sure we will ever get over the soccer hump in any of our lifetimes unless there are some dramatic changes to US Soccer.
Thought these players stock rose during the World Cup
Rising
Tillman
Berhalter
Balogun
Freeman
Thought these players stock fell
Falling
Weah
Pepi
Pulisic
Turner
Freese
Dest
Felt like everytone else was what they were. After last nights game, you could agrue that our entire team is falling but would be hard to judge tthem all on one crappy performance.
A lot of unrealized talent on the team. They are missing that edge that you see all of these other teams play with. The comback Argentina just pulled on Egypt was increible. Those players were going balls out for themselves and their country. It just means more to all those other teams.
Miss the defenses of Gooch, Agoos, Pope, Balboa, Lalas, Jones: goalies like Meola, Keller, Howard, Fridel, Guzan. Those were all "bring your lunch pail to wok" guys. What they lacked in skill, they more than made up with in heart.
Agree with some posters on here that we need to try and rebuild this team around Flo and Tillman. They were our breakout stars. Pulisic is very talented but is just missing something when it comes to this environment. He may be more talented than Donovan, but Landon was always balls to wall for the US.

I legitimately don’t ever want to see Pepi again. The way he plays pisses me off

I'd put Alex Freeman in the stock rising category. If he stays fit he'll start in 4 world cups for us, potentially even 5 but I hope by 2042 we'll have enough talent on the back end that the 37 year old isn't forced into a starting role
There should have been a bag of cash on Noahkai Banks doorstep this morning

Falling- Freese, hopefully we don’t see him in a US uniform in the next cycle. Berhalter needs to play in Europe and he is already 25. MLS won’t cut it. He will stagnate.

Like winning the world cup?
shite... That's almost everyone.
Generation of Italians just wish they could make a world cup.

Our ceiling is the quarterfinals. That’s not happening in 2030. We do not have the players in the pipeline.

100%
And, I don't know if Freese has a stock, but it would also be falling.
Dest falling.
Robinson falling (was probably overrated to begin with).

Agree with Freeman on stock rising and Freese with stock falling.
Dest is an intersting player. Sometime you watch him and he's world class, other times he's playing as bad as Weah against Turkey. Was glad to see Poch pulled Dest at half, he was garbage yesterday. Agree his stock may be falling as well.

He had a poor World Cup for sure. Thankfully development isn’t linear and he’s only 23. Pepi is still our #2 striker and there’s a massive drop off after him. It’s probably the hardest position on the field to develop and we don’t have a lot of promising players there unfortunately. Pepi will play a large role in this team going forward until we develop better talent.

If Pepi is our 2nd best striker, then we are in a world of hurt. His pace for 23 year old was lacking. He should have been hustling his arse off especially since he was alway a sub mainly. He was way too passive. The drop off between Balogun and Pepi is pretty massive. Plenty of opportunity for another striker to step up.

Who do you see stepping up in the next four years? After Balogun, Pepi, and Wright (who is more of a winger) there’s Agyemang, Sargent, and Downs.
Agyemang tore his Achilles and we don’t know how he will recover. Dike is coming off several seasons of injury and will probably never be in the picture again. Sargent isn’t exactly lighting up MLS. Downs has been atrocious since his transfer last year.
At the youth level things aren’t much better. Justin Ellis and Darren Yapi look ok in MLS so far but need time to develop. Julian Hall at NYRB has been great but is still very young. We’ve got a decent U17 kid in the Philly system who might be our best pure forward since Pepi but there’s always a chance he plays for Bosnia so idk.

Lol wut?
He's consistently been arguably one of the best LB in the PL

I think this might be his last World Cup. He’s had injury issues including a cartilage lesion and those are horrible to deal with in soccer.

Hope not, because then we're back to Some frick.

I think most saw him in that "elite" category that you mentioned heading into this WC. This is a "stock" report...not a he's terrible report. I was pretty disappointed in his play.

You said he was overrated, which is not the case.

Yes, I was differentiating him from some of the others who just played like dogshit.
I think most people (myself included) overrated him. My opinion is that his stock is "down" not because he's a poor player but because the assumption heading into this WC is that he's an elite level player. In hindsight, that was homerism.

I think he is elite at his position. But he's not an elite world class player if that makes sense.

I don't know who will step up. You sound like you have a good grasp at our current options. I don't know those players but hopefully one or two of them will start to emerge.
Pepi "emerged" this cycle as he wasn't on our World Cup roster in Qatar. Hopefully someone else will come up and make an impression.

He emerged last cycle with a bang, then fell off the deep end right before Qatar.
