Agreed. Miazga needs to start. The only issue I had with cannon tonight was not passing the ball to pulisic wide open on that break where he was ultimately fouled at the top of the box. He had 2-3 touches where he should have made the pass and pulisic was in.

I will pretty much guarantee you that Zardes starts against Curacao and then Jozy starts the semis and finals, if we go that far.

You're overreacting.

Roldan was off tonight, but he did have that really nice ball that we should've scored on

I may be. But there’s reason for concern.

Did the possibility of playing Panama again in a week or so maybe factor into the weak lineup? Don't want them to get a taste of our full power until it matters.

I'll be shocked if Jozy doesn't start with the Trinidad lineup against Curacao.

Commentators seemed to think Altidore scoring won’t change Zardes getting starts in the future. I pray that’s not true. Zardes is painful to watch...in the 20 minutes he played last night I don’t know that he made a single good touch. He is clearly a step below other players. Berhalter can’t let Zardes scoring against inferior opponents fool him into consistently giving Zardes starts in meaningful games.

Who’s going to beat out Cannon at Dallas?

Bryan Reynolds is 17 (turns 18 tomorrow) and I've been really impressed in the little bit I've seen of him. He's been a sub in 5 MLS games this season (1 assist in 43 total minutes) and has started both of their US Open matches. Has started 5 games for North Texas.

Zardes is a LOT more active in the press than Jozy is. Watching from the stands last night, that was 100% the most apparent difference to me. When Jozy was on the field, Mihailovic was the one high up and pressing the back line when they were trying to pass out/around.

Having said that, Jozy gives you bikes and great holdup play. Makes his own shots too, and has great passing even though that wasn't necessarily his best trait last night.

My preference is Jozy. The way Zardes has played recently, however, I am glad that we have a #2 striker that seems to be competent in the system we are running out there.

That's true, but Jozy can be pretty sneaky and puts himself in good positions to bait defenders into making a bad pass.

He may be our best option at #2 striker at this point. I just don't believe Zardes will be able to perform against opponents worth a crap based on watching him the past 4 years. He works harder than Jozy, but he's not a playmaker like Jozy. I'll be happy to see if Zardes changes my mind, but I'm not anticipating it.

And for Jozy, I've still rarely seen him play to his full potential. He's always seemed to have trouble finishing, but I know he has it in him and I hope something clicks soon.

In terms of the next match?

None of those three will be starting.

Mihailovic is only here because Duane Holmes was hurt. As for Roldan, his days are numbered if Paxton Pomykal continues to tear shite up. Lovitz needs to get dropped for Antonee Robinson. Trapp, I fear will continue to get call ups even after we're all dead and gone.

My hope is that with the recent play of Lima and Cannon that we can move passed the idea of Adams playing left back and then he can move into middle.

If we had to pick a top 23 I think the best would be:

Keepers: Steffen, Horvath, Johnson/Guzan/???
Defenders: Yedlin, Brooks, Miazga, Robinson, Lima, Zimmerman, Cannon, CCV (???)
Midfield: Pulisic, Adams, Weston, Bradley, Boyd, Weah, Holmes, Arriola, one more player here
Strikers: Jozy, Sargent, Wood

Looks pretty spot on to me. Maybe add Amon as that last midfielder/winger and we’re set
