The ref could have known he was tracking the ball because his head tilted up and he was clearly looking at the ball. He wasn't staring straight at ahead at Arbeloa, you could tell that from any angle.

Furthermore, he didn't kick at Arbeloa, he held his foot out to try and bring the ball down as it came in, something you could also tell from any angle.

It doesn't matter if 100 penalties go United's way, that call today was awful.

almost 2/3 of the game had already been wasted, essentially. at least half. the first half fricking sucked, and that had nothing to do with the ref. and the game didn't really get exciting until after the red, honestly

Well in short I agree, however the game needed a goal and got one and right when it was getting ramped up and good it was destroyed. That's what has me so angry. Surely you could see too that we were in for what 30-35 mins of great soccer with it 11v11......?

Hey, I'm not calling anyone anything. I haven't been in this whole red card conversation at all. I was actually trying to help provide your evidence.

Roy Keane just said it was 100% the right call, as did 3 of the post game analysts on ITV. And the one guy who said it should have been a yellow said he understood why it was called a red.

Well, everyone else has stated their opinion. So I'll state mine.

It was a reckless challenge. It certainly should have been a yellow IMO, but nothing more. However, a red was not entirely out of the question. Depending on the referee's point of view, he could've possibly adjudged it to be a red. We have the advantages of replays and camera angles that clearly show it should not have been red.

That's the thing, though. If you don't have the correct point of view, you shouldn't call that a red.

In my opinion, you better be absolutely sure you saw the whole play to pull out a red.

I'm still waiting for where "much less" has gotten a straight red before.
